Back in the 70's in NWW, I think, there was some sort of a water show in a big pool. Anyone remember and if you do where was it located and what is there now?
Also the big wooden roller coaster on the island side of the BW. Is that where the waterpark is now, the one with the big bucket?
By the way I'm new to this board and really enjoying it.
Thanks
Dave

Well the big pool you are refering to was at "sportland" On the west side of the boardwalk there was the pool and later came some waterslides, they were yellow! Anyone remember that? On the east side of the boards was "sportland pier" And was a show case for european amusement rides! The wooden coater on the west side of the boardwalk was the jack rabbit and was later namd the scream machine and was torn down in the fall of 1984 and rides replaced the pier for some time. This is now where the waterpark "splashzone" sits today!

Yes I remember the pool. In fact I believe about 10 years we went to a show.. Was it still around then? Not 100% sure tho.. I do remember (with pics too) of going ther as a young child to watch the diving acts..

Wow, those websites have great old pictures. I'd forgotten about the "Hell Hole" and some of the other rides. I think that little metal coaster in one of the shots is still there...one of the few surviving rides from another era.
I remember the pools but never went to any of the shows. What were the themes of the shows?

I recall when Sportland Pool later incorporated a big water slide at their facility...Use to sneek in a lot.

And the Castle Dracula was located next to the Screem Machine coaster it was built in 1976 over the 1919 old mill. www.darkinthepark.com has an old brochure from 1978. The newer ads I submitted. The Castle was open every year through October 2001 (a month past 9/11) then it closed for the season and it burned by surprise in Jan 2002 and was a total loss. Two freaking male teens did it. The Nickels announced they were going to rebuild it, then changed their minds apparently, after the second fire in July 2002 they announced a new indoor attraction but that never got anywhere. For the past few seasons all Wildwood boardwalk visitors got was a lame bungee trampoline where the great castle once was for 25 years. A thrill ride replacing a dark ride. Lame. What's up with the thrill ride craze? Morey's are adding two high thrill rides this year, the tower on Morey's and a Screamin' Swing on Spencer Av. pier (old Fun Pier/Wild Wheels). Morey's should build a giant walk-through horror house sometime. They had one, the Haunted House built in 1972 on Morey's Pier where the bumper cars are now, it was removed after 1984.
