I don't know about that, crazy...
The Morey's did build two large, very expensive coasters in the 90s, and all three of their coasters remain very popular attractions.
It seems, at one time, that at least one major new attraction used to pop up on the Boardwalk every year. This probably had more to do with staying up with the competition than anything.
Back in the 80s, the Morey's had only two piers (25th Street and Schellenger Ave.) There was also Hunt's, Sportland, Fun and Midway Piers... 5 seperate operations in total!
Today, the Morey's still have the aforementioned piers, plus the old Hunt's and Fun (Wild Wheels at Spencer Ave.). Sportland still exists, but has been inactive forever now. And Midway has done nothing but add minor "thrill" attractions and a water park since Castle Dracula burnt to the ground.
In short, there is no competition for the Morey's right now. They continue to add big rides here and there (AtmosFEAR will be the big one this year... it looks to be worth the hype), but there is no longer any sense of urgency because there is no competition to be concerned about.
I would love to see something done with Sportland and/or Midway. Perhaps some long-time rumors regarding these two properties will eventually come to fruition.
Time will tell...

[glow=red,2,300]I believe many factors come into play when it comes to building a major coaster. Piers don’t have huge foot print to build within like Six Flags. Then financing the coaster is something else people don’t realize, they just don’t buy a coaster like maybe a flat ride. The piers also have a limit to how high a ride can go so it would be hard to compete with the highest coaster. When people go to Six Flags or other theme parks they go to the park for the day. People don’t just come to Wildwood for the rides. Three million people might be on the boardwalk but I’m sure all three million don’t have a Morey’s Piers passport on there wrist. If that was the case then maybe we would see more coasters.[/glow]

+ the maintenance on the coasters is extremely expensive.. The liability factor is always on their minds..

Maybe...can you imagine the Boards with 3 million people on there all at once?? I don't even know if that many people would fit on the Boards at one time.

That would be impossible! To the best of my knowledge, Wildwood in the prime part of the summer has about 400,000 visitors max. I would guess around july 4th weekend or in august sometime.
