I was talking to a friend of mine last night about the possibility of Sam's finding a new (perhaps temporary) home for the 2006 season, if re-building at the 2600 location is not in the cards.
Over the course of the conversation, he reminded me that Sam's had only been in its previous location since some time in the 80s.
I'm not sure, but I believe Sam's was located one block north (same block as Gateway) prior to this. Does anyone know what year they moved to the 2600 block, and exactly where they were located on the 2500 block?
Also, was the business located anywhere else prior to that? I know they have been in the Wildwoods since 1957. I'm just looking for as many details on Sam's history as possible.
(P.S. -- Does anyone remember what was located on the corner of the Boardwalk and 26th before Sam's moved in? I'm wracking my brain, but I can't quite remember...)

I think Alan's Candyland was there, but I can't remember if it occupied all of sam's, or just sam's edition. I remember sam's being around 23rd st, maybe where Fisher's is now till about 1985. later!

Sam's was originally in the 2500 boardwalk block in the 1960's, I think in the area where Gateway 26 arcade has expanded to. Then they later had a second place in the 2200 block in a section where Ed's Funcade is now. Fishers in the 2300 block was the original Hot Spot II. Same owner is still there. The original Sam's is the first place I ventured on my own as a kid and sat down and ate pizza & I kept eating more slices. It was like 20 cents a slice.

Thanks to all of you for the updates. I am still in shock that our "hang out" is gone. When we had left Wildwood in late June, I did not buy enough Sam's Pizza T shirts to take back to Michigan. I called the owners in July and ordered 4 of them to hand out this year for Christmas. When they came, I did not even open the packages until Thursday night. Inside was a note from the owners, handwritten "See you next Year." I wish them all the best and hope the rebuilding goes well. They ran a great establishment.
Where Rita's Ice was once a T-shirt shop and I believe next to it was a candy store where the game of chance is now.

My Mom (God love her) came across some old books and brochures a few months ago. One is of the Shore Plaza - this is what I can make out of it: Where Sam's was - it used to be : SANERS. Great memory to the poster who said Alan's Candyland as that is next door and the end store looks like it might have been : Guys and Dolls. Hope this helps!

Frank - I don't know! I googled the name but didn't find anything although I didn't look to much. There are some signs in the window but I just can't read them. By the looks of it - I would almost guess it was a variety store but I just don't know! I will ask my Mom but I doubt she will remember!
