I was over at Anthony's site and something clicked while reading. What is up with Sportland Pier? There is nothing there. I saw a few old pieces of rides last week while there. Also does anyone know who Stanley Sportland is if there actually was a Stanley Sportland. For as long as I can remember, that pier was odd.

Sportland is dead and so is the casino pier cause its owned by the same man. Ted Synder. Untill he sells his property I dont think much is going to happen. There has been rumors about a coaster appearing on sportland but nothing ever happens. Plus the fact that if you have a coaster on your pier you need other rides and games and food which the pier does not have at all. Also the rumor about dr bloods house of horror getting restored is never going to happen. He has the money but isnt going to take any chances IMO.

That was interesting...that was one hell of a fire. I was working at the Red Oak graveyard shift...and was up on the Boards before work watching for a while. Many of the shop owners came in after the fire was 'contained' and most every one smelled of smoke.

That fire was in the arcade but didn't sportland pier itself have another fire around 1882 or 83? Or was this all one in the same?

Here's a pic I took about three weeks ago. Sorry, it doesn't show much of the pier, only the front along the main boardwalk. BTW - I worked there also when I was a kid. Anybody remember the swinging cages you stood up in and rocked back and forth till you went over the top? How about the HELL HOLE? We had a ride operator who would wait to go on until there was a pretty girl on the ride. When the barrel started spinning and everybody was pinned to the wall, he could roll sideways until he was pinned against the girl. He used to say it was a great way to meet girls because she couldn't slap you until the barrel stopped spinning. I never had the courage to try it. Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

Great article. It actually answered a lot of questions I had from a previous post. Thanks.

In an earlier post I meant 1982, in reference to when there was a fire on sportland pier.
