OK, I can't believe I'm asking this. But, curiosity has certainly gotten the best of me...
Does anyone know anything about the guy who wanders down the Boardwalk practically every night in the summer, with a gigantic CLOCK strapped to his wrist?
He always has the same attire on -- skin tight shirts that match the color of his CLOCK on any given night (yes, he has color variations!), baggy pants, sunglasses.
His hair is kind of, um, greasy-looking (but short), I guess, and he struts around and often does a little dance. He could range in age anywhere from 17 to mid-20s, I'd say.
I swear, I saw this guy on the Boardwalk practically every night I was down there this past summer. My brother seems to remember him from the previous summer also, but I'm not sure that I do.
Anyway, I KNOW somebody else here has to know who I'm talking about.
The guy seems to have something of a local following, as people (OK, usually teenage girls) wave to him and call out his name (which is totally eluding me right now) as he struts by.
I haven't really thought about him much lately, but my uncle, believe it or not, told me that he saw him at the Cherry Hill Mall last week, seeming walking around in a semi-trance and doing his same Boardwalk routine.
Who the heck is this guy???

Who didn't see that one coming? Tell me... do the girls on the boardwalk like the blue or aqua spandex better?

By the way, condor, thanks for the pic. That's the guy, alright. Did you just happen to see him going by and decide to snap this pic... or is this a cropped portion of a larger picture? Any info on this guy, or what his deal is? Just seems like a guy having fun to me, but I'm just curious about him. Wonder if he has an interesting backstory, or whatever.

You're right, just a crazy guy having a good time. This pic was just snapped of him going quickly down the boards (If you can tell, it's a bit blurry and he's not looking at the camera.) He was coming out of the arcade to greet some of his compatriots. Just one of the many things that make Wildwood what it is IMO.

I don't want to speak for anyone else here, but sometimes I get so nostaligic about the old buildings and structural institutions of the Wildwoods, that I tend to forget about or overlook the characters that help make the island such a great, unique place. That's part of the reason I brought up this guy. He's kind of goofy, sort of "out there," definitely non-conventional in every way. And yet, that's what makes him so likable and so unique. By the end of the summer, I would be walking down the Boardwalk with my wife, and when this guy neared, you would actually hear a little rumble from the people around you. "Hey, it's him! Coming this way!" There was like, this little buzz; it's things like that and people like this guy that help keep the Wildwoods so unique. The characters. I guess, in our own ways, we fall under this category also. We may not all be "public" figures, or have a cult following on the Boardwalk, but we're all part of the old Wildwood woodwork in our own ways. Sorry to go on and on about a subject that some may just consider flat-out silly. Thinking of this guy just reminds me about the Boardwalk, the uniqueness of the Wildwoods, and the summertime in general. Good times all around... gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling all over. Happy Friday, everyone!

I bet you could write an entire book based upon a mere hour's worth of observations of watching people pass by... especially in Wildwood.

I also agree....Wildwood is the best place for people watching. There seems to be a never-ending supply of white trash, Xzibit wannabes, and overweight girls in tight cloths on the boards. Endless fun. And to answer your question Condor, I prefer the red spandex.

Never seen the red variation, Crippled. Bet the girls love it though. As for the never-ending parade of characters that populate the Boardwalk on a warm summer's night, yup, it takes all kinds. I think Frank said it a while back: Wildwood is about "real" people. It is "endless fun" for everyone! C'mon, would you really want it any other way?
