From Today's AC Press: www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/story/5972701p-5966709c.html Sam's Pizza will be back, family says From Press staff reports (Published: February 28, 2006) From Press staff reports WILDWOOD — Sam's Pizza Palace, destroyed by a December fire at the Shore Plaza Motel, is coming back, family members say. Anthony Zuccarello, whose father-in-law, Salvatore Spera, owned the motel, said Monday that his family plans to rebuild the popular pizza place in the same location, on the Boardwalk at 26th Avenue, in time for the 2006 summer season. The pizza shop was destroyed after fire swept through the Shore Plaza Motel on Dec. 9. The intense fire started in a ceiling-based heating unit in a third floor room of the 70-unit motel. It was reported at 2:30 p.m. but was not completely extinguished until the next day. The pizza place was one of three shops on the Boardwalk in front of the motel. Zuccarello said the family was not sure about its plans for the motel site. He said the family has heard from many people eager to see Sam's up and running again. “We want to be open for our loyal customers,” he said. Zuccarello said the family is still dealing with the loss of the motel, which has been in the family since 1977. It was built in 1960. Meanwhile, the lot where the motel once stood is being cleared of debris.

That is great news!!!!!!! While I am sad that it won't be the old Sam's under the Shore Plaza - I am so happy that they are going to rebuild!!! I hope they can have the new place built in time!!!! Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info, foulal!
This is great news, but it seems as if they will be racing against the clock to get the "new" Sam's up and running by this summer.
I was on the Boardwalk Saturday, and are where Sam's and the other two stores were is now a big, open pit. Does anyone know if (when?) the rest of the Shore Plaza structure is going to be demolished?
At any rate, I wish them all the best in this endeavor, and hope to savor a slice of Sam's this summer!

Glad to see that Sam's will be back this summer. Looks like they're taking it slow in deciding what to do the remainder of the property. Imagine they have been bombarded with proposals from many developers?

Good news, especially that they plan to open in the same location so soon. I do hope they build another Shore Plaza though...

Good news, especially that they plan to open in the same location so soon. I do hope they build another Shore Plaza though... I think I saw that a story is going to come out tomorrow that Sams is going to try to reopen for the 2006 season but it is now going to take up the whole boardwalk block from Juniper to Poplar with seating for 200. One restaurant, not three separate businesses. No word on the future of the Shore Plaza, though. With the Starlight Resort going up next door at Hunts Parking lot, the Shore Plaza will have a wonderful marketing oportunity by going bigger and better. It would improve the neighborhood and add a lot more parking and hotel rooms for the area around Morey's Pier. Thom

Good to hear of a larger Sam's, Thom - they used to fill the old place quite often. I'm sure it'll be great...
They could even consider building a new Shore Plaza larger than the old one, but not a skyscraper either. Maybe about 8 floors. If it's a Motel, even a larger one, I'd hope they reuse the beautiful old signs that survived the fire.

It's funny. My brother and I were standing at the base of the old complex, looking down into the pit which once served as the foundation for Sam's, the other two stores and the east end of the Shore Plaza, on Saturday afternoon.
We were talking to another passer-by, and just started kicking around ideas and thoughts for the fun of it.
The guy stated that he thought Sam's should re-build a larger restaurant on the site. We thought it was a great idea. Not only would it be practical (considering the business Sam's gets), but it would be a great way to "improve" upon the original and come back better than ever after the fire.
I also agree that this could be a tremendous opportunity for the Shore Plaza to capitalize on. I would imagine that they will.

I think the owners of Sams should also rebuild Castle Dracula and put the pizza palace under it. Right Robert?

Thanks, CV.
One of the very few "Robert-free" threads, and now it's just a matter of time.
(Ah, who am I kidding; it was just a matter of time anyway)...
