Thanks Thom and writhing. When I saw the La Vita a couple of weeks ago, I was still a little concerned, even after the reports here that it would be OK. Now I'm a little more reassured - thanks!
Great to hear that the Monaco will be around too, seemingly better than ever...

Sorry about the Monaco mistake. My memory is leaving me. I changed that ebay listing this morning.

Nice to see these places are being fixed up and not demo'd. Whoever said we shouldn't overlook these motels was right. The La Vita really is a neat little motel, with a nifty lighting scheme at night. Hopefully they fixed the neon haha.

Great to see the rebirth of the Monaco, looks like they've really done a great job, nice website. Happy to see they updated while retaining it's past. We all know it could be done, just takes courage and vision. Very encouraging! I wish them well!

Hey, Guys - Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures from March 1 that show some new activity on Hunts Pier. It isn't much but there is something new going up. Picture one is of the beginning construction of the new Sand Jam Surf Shop on the front of the pier. Picture two is of the old giant rooftop GOLF sign across from the pier being dismantled. I don't think it has anything to do with this but a couple workmen on the roof told me that there may have been a little bit of rooftop damage from the Shore Plaza fire next door. I doubt that has anything at all to do with the old golf sign coming down, though. Well, here are the pics: Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.comHey Thom- Are these actual photos or are they renderings? They don't look like actual photos to me; rather look like 3-D renderings using Maya or 3-D Studio Max (3-D programs). Well I think it's very sad what has become of Hunt's Pier and honestly I don't recognize it anymore... except for the Nugget. Unfortunately, if that "last remaining Hunt's ride" is gone, I'll feel like a total stranger in Wildwood. -Kristen

Kind of flattering that you think they were created by a program, though. Just me. Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

Hey Thom- Thanks for the clarification... besides, you can never be too sure these days! (Especially since it's part of my line of work... print and web design)
Also, I have been told that the Rapids are being dismantled/removed from Hunt's Pier... do you have any information on it? -Kristen

I'd have to walk down on the beach to the waterline to find out about the rapids. And that's a little too far for these old legs right now. Thom

When I was down on feb 6th, 7th, and 8th there was no sign of the rapids being moved. I walked all the way down the beach and I should have taken pics of the rapids.

Wow! How things change fast. I have just heard today that the rapids are being removed! I wonder what will go in its place in the future?

I seriously doubt anything will be replacing the Rapids. Well, another Hunt's Pier ride down.... one more to go.

Hi, Kristen, that's a nice site you have. Is that Bud Hunt in the picture? I would like to thank your family for such a wonderful amusement pier you had. I was there between 1980-1983 with my family, father, mother, younger brother, (my father passed away Mar 1986). The Golden Nugget was one of my favorite rides although I was scared of it when I was younger because I was afraid of all roller coasters and on my first ride at about 6-7 years old I was afraid to go on it. My other favorites were the Pirate Ship, Keystone Kops, Jungleland, and the Ghost Town train. It's a shame that none of the owners after Bud had the same vision he did, all they wanted to do is change the pier to suit them even if it meant destroyng late 50's early 60's rides like the Flyer, Jungleland, and Pirate Ship Skua. I can only hope the Morey's save the Nugget and reopen it to the public.
