I don't know. I wish we had seen progress already. I just know that Jack Morey told me to keep the feedback coming in when I met him last May...

Unfortunately for all of us Mr. Morey has things that are higher up on his list of priorities.

I guess I still can't understand how they can leave 2 piers in virtual ruins. Christ, if nothing else, put up a mall already with some outdoor restaurants and bars.

I don't know many of the technical details of the Nugget but I know that the roller coaster within (and yes, it is a roller coaster) is made of steel, and despite some rust the structure of the actual ride isn't going to simply collapse upon itself. Steel coasters can sit for years and still be structurally sound. The building is mostly concrete so I don't think there is much reason to be concerned about that either. The main problem would be the cars and the darkride stunts, and even that wouldn't be a huge issue because there are companies that can restore those things to operation, or at least fabricate replacement parks.
I'm not saying Morey's could (or should) wait forever to do this, but I don't think the ride is going to sink into the sand within the next few months.

I don't think anyone is saying it is going to collapse, but it will just get to the point where the repairs will be too costly, like leaving a car out in a field for 5 years, everything freezes up. In the Nugget's case, will all the salt air hitting it, I'm sure all the relays, wires, switches, etc. are corroded, and the inside walls are probably sagging. and it likely will have difficulty in passing safety inspection with all these problems. probably needs a few $100K just to get it back up and running.

I understand everyone's frustration (as well as my own) with regards to the Golden Nugget. There's nothing worse than being able to look at something wither away with your own eyes and know there's very little that can be done about it. It sits there on the pier, tucked away behind a go-cart track in darkness, waiting. The young ignore it, having never experienced it's joys from riding it. The old can't forget it. It pulls our focus everytime we walk upon the boards. We can't not look for it, or pretend it's no longer there.
It waits, but it won't wait forever.

Earlier this year, I spoke with the man who operated the Golden Nugget, his name is French Louie. He told me that with all the years of weather abuse AND years of neglect, it could cave in. The Nugget isn't made up of just concrete; there are wood and metal beams, asbestos within the materials of the ride, etc.
You cannot tell me that with all of these different types of materials AND the fact that no repairs have been done that it couldn't be weak and have a chance of crashing down. All buildings need repairs/renovations if they are going to remain standing for many years to come.... I just hope that the Nugget will be one of those structures that will be around for a long time.
Also, Honor... you hit the nail on the head for me. "The young ignore it, having never experienced it's joys from riding it. The old can't forget it. It pulls our focus everytime we walk upon the boards. We can't not look for it, or pretend it's no longer there."
I feel the same way... every time I go up onto the boardwalk, nothing else matters to me but the Nugget. No matter what street I choose to make it up to the boards, my eyes direct me towards the Nugget and that's all I see. It isn't until several minutes later that I begin to see the other shops, rides, people around me. My heart will always be on Hunt's Pier.

Well said, Kristen. What is the Nugget? More than just a ride, I believe. The Nugget is our link to the past, our time machine for the soul in which we can relive our youthful days of innocence. It's our call to adventure, to the unknown. We are older now, and we've forgotten ourselves. The Nugget reminds us, forces us to look upon our past and wonder how we've gotten here.
That's why we seek it out. It's our comfort, and our hope. To restore the Nugget is to restore a part of our soul. The thing is, it's easily within our reach, yet just beyond our grasp. We've lost the others (Skua, Jungleland, Keystone Cops, Whacky Shack) but the Nugget still beckons us.
How long remains to be seen. The question should be, what will you do with that time?

The Nugget could be the "Top Ride" of the year for anyone over 30 - But would the 10 to 20 year old love it?
I think we are trying to hold on to a piece of our childhood - I personally would love to ride it once more but I don't think my 14 year old son would really enjoy it.
We love it because it reminds us of our innocents. It reminds us of the 1980s-1990s when things were different - When Wildwood was different!
Times changes - Life Changes - That is what memories are for and Pictures!
If the Nugget never stopped running would it be the top ride?? We need to appreciate things when we have them. Everyone needs to ride the Slide one more time!

It could blow Dante's out of the water....or fire.

I do have an "attachment" to the Nugget, but even trying to distance myself from that, I would still say it is my favorite ride ever. I haven't been on anything that I preferred to it, especially as a whole experience. There's a certain magic in there...

I don't know many of the technical details of the Nugget but I know that the roller coaster within (and yes, it is a roller coaster)quote] Not to get technical or anything, but the beauty of this "coaster", for me anyway, was the speed changes throughout the ride. First you have the jerky pull of the chains as you travel up the incline to the top, with a nice view of the shoreline to your right. Then, you just sort of cruise around the upper level at just the right speed to let you enjoy all the sites. Next comes the belly tickling drop into the Bottomless shaft, with just a hint of braking halfway down. A burst of light as you come out onto the trestle turn (remember the whistle?), then back inside for a couple more small drops. Then, everything slows down again for the rest of the stunts (rotating barrel, etc) to let you soak it all in. This ride combines the thrill of a conventional 'coaster with the visual attraction of a ride-through dark ride, and the only way it could have been better is if it were longer! When I get my first million, I would restore the 'Nugget with additional trackage under the pier.....Did I miss anything? Was there a stunt that had water dropping from the ceiling that shut off as the cars got there, like in the Jungleland ride? I do remember the breaking ceiling beams.

Last weekend while riding the Atmosphere, of course being the way that I am, before approaching the top I decided to gaze at the sites on the boardwalk. I noticed that on the back of Hunt's Pier, there seems to be pieves of dismantled rides. Now I know most of the Hunt's rides are long gone, since I saw many of them on the Funchase site, but does anyone know anything about these?

I just can't ever forget the "squeak squeak squeak" it made coming on that outside turn, and how crowded the pier was in the 70's, I thought it would last forever, we all did, even my parents who were my age now back then, and a generation later, it's gone.

As of last year you could still see what remained of the rampaging rapids although that was supposed to be dismantled this year. Have not made it to ww yet in 06 so it may be gone by now. Rumor said it was going to be taken apart.
