Any word on the Nugget? Will it remain dead for another year?

Nothing new, Robert.
All we can say with certainty is that the Nugget will not be up and running in any capacity next season.
Who knows, though, perhaps the winter will bring some good news for the future.
In the meantime, the the waiting continues...

I pray everyday that some irresponsible teenage idiots don't sneak in and cause damage or, God forbid, accidentally start a fire, which unfortunately has been the fate of too many places down there over the last 25 years...

In a way (and I hate to even say this), I'm kind of surprised that something like that hasn't happened, considering all the years the Nugget has been sitting there dormant. I would have to assume that pier security is fairly tight, but anyone who's been on the Boardwalk on a cold February afternoon can attest to how completely desolate it seems there. I can't imagine it would be that difficult to sneak in and do some damage, if someone really wanted to. Let's just hope it never happens, the Nugget or otherwise.

From what I have heard, "The Nugget" contains so much asbestos, you couldn't burn it with the fires of hell.

I posted some rather dreary news regarding this topic in the WW nostaligia section, "golden nugget" thread.

Hey, Dr. Blood's has been closed even longer and somehow that ride is still standing.

I hope there isn't internal structural problems that are making them think twice about keeping it another year. I thought the exterior was sturdy concrete, or what is it? The fake rock wall. I'm sure with a little TLC it could run again and entertain a whole new generation of children, but it's up to the Morey's to make the final decision on its fate. They simply cannot tear down the only PTC dark ride. That would be a crime. Even ACE was fighting to preserve it.

The "fake rock wall" is part of the problem. From what I understand, the ride was built so that everything is interconnected. A new ride like the Golden Nugget would be built so that the ride system itself is separate from the exterior walls but that is not what was done when it was built in 1960. The ride can't be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere without major work, it would have to be moved as one piece. I'm sure keeping that piece together is posing a major problem.

The plan was to cut away the Nugget's portion of the pier, no?

that would most likely be cheaper then tryng to move the actual nugget.. The plan was to cut away the Nugget's portion of the pier, no?

How much does that thing weigh? They said that it would take a few days to actually move the ride to Morey's Pier.

The plan is to cut that portion of the pier away, roll the thing across the beach and rotate it 180 degrees so it can face south on Mariner's Landing.
