www.flyinphilsphotos.com/amusements Wildwood piers are on there. Hunt's Pier looks like crap now! 8/06 shot. The Nugget looks lost with all the junk and empty space and new buildings around it. Hunt's is a real eyesore now, at least in the back behind the Nugget. There's also shots of my hometown park, Dorney Park on that site and Seaside Heights, Ocean City, MD, etc. How many "lost" motels can you spot in the WW shots?

Nice pics! I was able to pick out the Mayfair Manor Apts on Magnolia Ave, athough I'm not sure if that is still the name, but we stayed there through the '80s. I was also able to pick out some other sites we stayed at that are no longer there. Heartbreaking to look at the Hunts shots...

What is all the crap behind the Golden Nugget? Is that parts of old rides?

What is all the crap behind the Golden Nugget? Is that parts of old rides? I think Morey's uses it as a storage area. Junky looking isn't it? The view from the beach is worse. re

I think both Hunt's and Sportland piers should be cleaned up and some of those old dark ride props on Sportland in the back saved and donated to the museum or something. And the Nugget should be restored whether it is moved or not and Dr. Blood's should be rebuilt like Dante's was and reopened. Maybe Sportland should add a few rides, too like a compact coaster and carousel like they had in the 70's. There was a rumor something like that would happen with a new/reopened dark ride but nothing happened.

Agreed, Robert. Wasting 2/5 of the piers is ridiculous. Until WW fixes them, they will continue to be a blemish on the island, no matter what is done by way of motels, hotels, convention center and the like.

or they should at least put up a high fence(buffer) so that this stuff cannot be seen..

or a few bars, restaurants, etc., once they move the Nugget.

I'm not sure WW can clean the piers up, they don't own them. What they can do (if they haven't yet) is pass ordinances then enforce it with fines. Or does the Wildwoods Boardwalk Special Improvement District have jurisdiction? That mess on the beach behind the Nugget is an eyesore. As is the back of the pier itself. Yet the new Ocean Oasis beach area is pristine, only a few blocks separate them, both have the same owner. I would think it could be called an attractive nuisance? What do you think TLR? I took a walk along the beach a few weeks ago, just me + the fisherman were on the beach, that walk along the almost barren beachfront was a real eye-opener for me. It gave me an opportunity to look without distraction at the back of some of those piers. It was chaotic clutter fronting a public beach. I know the beach is fairly wide there but I wonder if a storm came in far enough, would that junk be floating and blowing around? I realize the owners have their maintenance shop at Hunts but all that stuff left out in the elements isn't a pretty sight. That's awful expensive real estate for a workshop and I think tram car storage. The current owners bought it in about 1999, certainly in 7 years, they could come up with a plan?
Unless another liqour liscense comes up for sale, I doubt we will see bars on any pier except Seapoint, since NWW has already stated that may be a possibility for the redevelopment.

I'm sure Bud Hunt as well as Vince Kostek would roll in their graves if they saw what has happened to their once great pier that their former competitors (Morey's) who now own their former property and let it go to waste and use it as a dump for unwanted stuff. Both Hunt and Kostek saw the Flyer demolition in 1989 and Hunt admitted it was over at that point and Kostek was sick over it. I guess what happens when longtime owners sell their businesses is they just turn their backs on the very place that they poured their blood, sweat and tears into. And the new owners do whatever they want to the property without regard to preservation.

It looks like the Rampaging Rapids is still up. I thought that was supposed to removed over the summer.
