never been it.. Its bascally unchanged since my childhood tho.. Im sure it has to be nice .. Ill check it out this summer:) Frank Does anybody know about the Shore Plaza Motel at 26th, and boardwalk? It would seem to be a great spot for developers to put condos. And check out their 2nd floor lobby, it is perfectely preserved from the 1960's!

I've been to the Shore Plaza Motel on the boardwalk and it is a pretty special place...But I can't understand why someone would comment on building condos there and then pointing out how perfectly the second floor lobby is preserved!
Isn't that the type of building you would try to PRESERVE rather than DEMOLISH simply because of its authenticity and history?
There is/was another similar motel located along the boardwalk - almost in that same area going towards the old Hunts Pier area - that has been abandoned for years now and that's one building that has certainly seen better days. This is a building that should be offered up to the wrecking ball. Not even the boardwalk shops below are open for business anymore!

What motel are you talkin' about, going toward Hunt's Pier? The Shore Plaza is AT the boardwalk! Do you mean the block between Glenwood, & Maple, where there are abandoned condos?

I believe I correctly stated that Shore Plaza is on the boardwalk - but that is not the structure I suggested be torn down.
I'm more than familiar where Shore Plaza is located and to cite an old brochure from the place "we're located ON THE BOARDWALK between 26th Street and Juniper Avenue."
But yes...There was/is another building (maybe two or three stories high) originally used as a motel very briefly and later for condo units for an even shorter amount of time, that became abandoned some years ago situated, again, ALONG the boardwalk - and it was still very much there as of the summer of 2004.
I believe I also said that this nightmare of a structure colored in beige stucco) was located "almost in the same area going towards the old Hunt's Pier." I might be wrong on the exact location and it could very well be further away than I recall. But other than that I don't know the exact location.
I also have no idea what the name of the building was/is since I never saw it from the street off the boardwalk which would be Ocean Ave. But you can't miss the place at night since it stands out like a "black hole" amidst all the glow of neon and other lights along the boardwalk.

Jeez...I never said that you wanted the Shore Plaza torn down if you read my post again... It seems I'm guilty of simply reading into your message the wrong way (which I apologize for) and was curious as to your pointing out that it was a great spot to build condos before praising the uniqueness of the place. It was my fault if your message tended to sound confusing to me...Again, sorry.

I know the block you are talkin about Ant. its is kinda spoky to see the one dark block at night isn't it? That should be knocked down.. Frank,
Do you know where along the boardwalk that building is located? And it is one hell of a creepy looking place!
I've never taken the time to look around for any landmarks or street signs so I'm really not sure now where it is - even though it really stands out at night!

I too know the building you're speaking of, also can't recall the exact location. I thought a few years back it had No Trespassing signs posted or maybe it said Condemned, ft it did it didn't it should have been. It had balconies overlooking the walk, I think. It looks so seedy, scary and depressing. I remember the first time I saw it, I looked at it in utter shock. re

That block is depressing! Is that the one that used to be so nice? Including "Taylor Pork Roll", "James Mallin's Candies", "Wildwood Candy Company", and "Falk's"?

It's hard for me, at least, to recall exactly what was located in that section of building along the boardwalk as it's been awhile since I've seen anything happening there. Even when it was open some years back the people who "occupied" the rooms seemed suspect to say the least.
I actually saw one odd looking fellow taking up space in one of the units pull his pants down and urinate off his balcony onto the boardwalk before boardwalk police realized that it wasn't rain drops hitting people below!

For the life of me, I can't understand why that complex is still standing (or, in the very least, hasn't been severely renovated).
First of all, it is a terrible eyesore, and an outright embarrassment to the city of Wildwood and the entire island resort in general.
Secondly, considering all the condo units and the amount of retail space on the Boardwalk, Wildwood has to be losing a lot of money every year by just having the complex sit there and literally rot away.
It figures, though. The one instance where we actually want to see a building demolished in the Wildwoods and, naturally, it just sits there year after year with no action taken.
I can’t remember any of the specific establishments that operated on that block, either, but it definitely was a very busy and exciting area of the Boardwalk not too long ago.
It is quite depressing to walk by now, especially at night.
Piggybacking off of what Anthony stated in the last post, my recollection of the people who inhabited the condo units above the Boardwalk is that they always seemed to be wild college-age nutballs engaging in some sort of wild activity.
I remember seeing guys literally hanging off of the balconies years ago, partying and blaring their music so loud that it would often drown out the already-amplified voices of the gaming peddlers below.
They may have been a bit too much, but I still kind of miss them when I stare at the dilapidated mess that that complex has become.
Hopefully, something will be done about that place soon…
