God...I remember when they were building the Lou Booth Motel. That must have been around 1969 because in 1970 they were billing the place as North Wildwoods newest luxury motel.
I also recall a tiny little motel in NW called The Tiki "Where the South Seas Paradise Awaits You" which was right on the beach.
Anyone recal the LuRae Motel in NW? The pool had a big white ornate clam shell fixed at the end which was really a fountain that sprayed water into the air at night!

Wasn't the old Lou Booth Motel in and around the same area as where the American Inn is/was? Haven't really taken a good look around NW lately so I'm not too sure if the American Inn is even there today!
Don't know why I'm associating these two motels as being in the same area of NW? Both were around 13th or 14th Ave and right on the beach if I recall?

It just came to me that the old Lou Booth Motel was located at 14th and 15th Aves on the beach. I believe the address number was 512. A lot of the old brochures from the early '70s would have these correction tags stuck over the original listed address, which said 13th and 14th Ave at Beach in NW.
I recall that there were these red shields with the intitals LB fitted atop the outdoor iron stairs at the Lou Booth...Okay. I remember the place really well now....I think.

Anthony and Frank, now you're taking my neck of the woods. We're on 16th. The LeBoot is now condos, remember when they were just another Motel, they fill the entire block between 14th & 15th, with the walkway to JFK and The American is right along side on 13th.
Anthony I remember the Tiki, on 16th, it's now, your guessed it, condos, built last summer.
I've heard that the LuRae, is going to go as well, think the reason I heard was that the owners were getting up there and it was getting harder them them to keep it going. They always kept their property in excellent shape. Haven't confirmed this for sure, so just rumor at this point....but one worth a mention. re

At least the Le Boot is comprised of condos "done right."
By that, I mean that the complex has maintained its original motif, and still presents itself as motel.
If you did not know that the place was made up, technically, of condo units, you would just assume that it is still a motel.
The Trylon, right up the road on JFK Blvd., is another great example of a "condotel" that has maintained its sense of history and culture.
Why other institutions in the Wildwoods can't follow such a lead is beyond me.

Al, I agree. It just goes to show that it can be done without loosing the old flavor while still making a profit. I compared the rates for LeBoot and the American and they appear to be the same. In chatting with the Manager of the LeBoot, I discovered that even if your you're an owner of a condo there, you still are charged the same room rate as a guest. That way he said it made it fair, since some owners spend more time there than others. re
