Hi All,
I have been lurking here for quite a while, but this is my first post. My family consisting of 30-40 members have been staying at the Jolly Roger every year for the last 15 years. We love it there. Unfortunately, with all the changes in Wildwood, I am worried that the Jolly Roger will become condos. I have read that they have filed some paperwork to allow them to make changes to the property, but haven't heard anything in several months about the property.
Anyone out there have any information on this?
Thanks.

I spoke to an owner of one of the motels reguarding this matter today. He was not sure one way or another what its future was. It will be open for the 2006 season, however.

Wanted to bring this post back to the top. Wondering if there was any news on the Jolly Roger to report. Hopefully it will follow the same path as the ocean view seems to be going.

I want to again post that the Jolly Roger is NOT owned by the Moreys anymore. I cannot say more about that, so please don't be offended by my lack of detail...
I understand that the Jolly Roger will likely come down, BUT will be replaced with a structure that will take some of the look of the current Jolly Roger, though larger, right down to the use of the original pirate, etc. I've heard a rumor that a reason why this may happen instead of just expanding the original Jolly Roger is due to structural issues.

Martin is there a time table of when the Jolly Roger may/will come down?

I know you don't know much, but will the new building still be run as a hotel/motel?

Hopefully a motel. If this place does come down i'm glad I took lots of photos. It would be cool to built a larger, more modern building keeping the look of the original. Its a same this was not done with some of the older places that are gone.

I don't think a Motel - maybe a Condotel? I don't think it will quite replicate what's there, but the way I understood it the new Jolly Roger should have at least some of the look and feel of the original. I wish I knew more. We'll see...

Thanks for the warning, Martin... <sigh>... please keep us posted. I mentioned this to my dad last night and he said with a tinge of sadness, "Oh... that was always a landmark." And he's no sentimentalist. I wonder if that's why the front desk attitude at the JR has been so lousy every time I've called there the past few years. Well, here's one for the scrapbook that I took last weekend, if anybody wants it... The JR looks more dated to me than most motels down there, and probably is one of the oldest. It lacks curb appeal at this point from Atlantic Ave, IMO, but from the beach side, and from inside the lobby as of a couple of years ago, I thought it still had the aura of a fun place to stay and seemed in good condition. And if I'm not mistaken, the parking area could be enlarged (which is what prevents some motels from expanding). I hope it will not have to be completely destroyed. If it does, let them at least care enough to save that sign and make it available to a preservationist like Fred Musso if they don't want it.

I feel the opposite - I think the Jolly Roger looks great from the Atlantic Avenue side (and well maintained), and just OK from the Ocean Avenue side...

I always thought the JR looked pretty neat too. It was facing the ocean so that made it special in a weird sorta way too. I actually wanted to have the famly vacation there 2 years ago but my wife talked me out of it for the Compass..
