This past weekend I ventured once again to the shore for the weekend. Beautiful weather and a nice refreshing ocean made the drive home very sad.....
A friend of mine was staying at the Key Largo condos on Wildwood Ave. While there, we went back to the condo to sit by the pool and take a shower. As soon as we walked into the pool area, we were immediately question as to which room we were in, why we were at the pool, we were told there were more than 6 people in the room already (when in actuality there were only 4) we were told the owner was going to be fined for having too many people. Becoming disgusted with this I went up to the room before I opened my mouth and inserted my foot. My first instinct was that the woman and her husband who were questioning us were the site managers. When I found out that the people questioning us were other people staying there, I innediately became that much more infuriated. I said to one of my friends, "This is the reason I prefer to stay at a house or a motel. If someone is going to tell me I can't do something, I'd rather it be the manager or owner, not some yuppie who thinks their sh*t don't stink." (sorry for the analogy but its true)
This is the reason I REFUSE to stay in a condo complex. I was so annoyed with this woman. I wanted to ask her who she thought she was, and how long she had been vacationing in Wildwood. I also wanted to let her know that I have spent every summer there since I was 10 months old and if she didn't like me or my friends, she could simply find her way to Stone Harbor with the other yuppies, becuase this is my island lol. I'm sorry but this today was just something that really pissed me off. It was a confirmation to me, that Wildwood is changing for the worse. Many city officials wanted to bring in a new class of people, which they were successful in doing. They finally brought the jerks into Wildwood.

Yeah, lets build some Starbucks and Saks just for them. WW was more innocent and care free in the old days lets say the 70's and 80's. You didn't have to worry if your favorite motel would still be there the next year or not, or that some executive snob would kick sand in your face. Now you have to worry about the future, that is what is going to happen next which is at the whim of potential developers and sales of property.

Hey, don't let these "new jerks" get to you!!! I really don't think (hope) it is a reflection of the new folks, but rather a meddlesome b....ch. They come in all wallet sizes. WW is there for all to enjoy peacefully and within limits...which u were doing. Just remember, some will always fell it is their duty tell u what 2 do! I was down this w/e too, and it was magnificant. My A/C broke....well I could put up with that b..ch, but I need to be cool!

Like everywhere else The Wildwoods have it's fair share of the Gladys Kravitz mentality, and always will. Don't let it impact your Wildwood time. The world is full of wannabes.

Chances are the woman was an owner of one of the condos. If I recall the Key Largo Condos were built as condos and is not a motel conversion. Just curious, what right do you feel you have to be able to use the pool facilities since you were not an owner or renting a condo? Just because you have a friend staying in the building does on give you the right to use the complex. Condos such as these are privately owned by many owners, have separate utilities per unit, and a monthly owners fee to maintain the pool and property. I have no problem if you wanted to visit your friend in the room but that still does not give you the right to use the pool. How would you feel if some stranger just stopped by your home and helped themselves to your pool or decided to use your hose to wash their car? Condos are privately owned residences and second homes to many owners. Since I have owned several small condos for the past 10 years in the Wildwoods I have no problem saying that what you did happens 25 to 30 times per day at this complex. I can’t tell you how many times I have traveled to my second home to fine complete strangers parking in my private parking space because they had friend in the building, and complete strangers helping themselves to the pool and outside shower as they come off the beach. People don’t understand that when you rent a condo you are renting someone’s home. The property should be treated and respected the same way you would demand someone respects YOUR home. Just because you go to Wildwood a few times per year does not give you the keys to the city.

Wildwood 6, I did not ask for the keys to the city, nor do I go to Wildwood a few times a year. For your information, my family does have a home in Wildwood and I do spend most of my summers there, as well as a good part of my winters. To be courteous, I did park on the street and not in someone elses spot, and I paid a meter to park all day long costing me around 10 bucks. I was spending time with a friend who was renting a room there with his family. I had no intentions of going into any pool. My intention was to sit BY the pool and relax. Before you go and make accusations against people for what they will or will not do, you need to know some things about them. Maybe you did not like my post or found it offensive. If this is the case I am truly sorry for that, but as an American I have freedom of speech. It is MY opinion of the manner in which I was treated yesterday. Not doing anything bad, hurting or faulting anyone in any sort of way. There were a total of 4 people staying in the room. There were not astronomical amounts of people as the woman said there were. For the record I would like to know what I did. I simply visited a friend and attempted to sit in a chair BY the pool NOT in the pool. Does that mean if I have a friend to my home he or she cannot sit by my pool because it is not their pool? I do wholeheartedly understand your point and where you are coming from, but at the same time, feel you failed to see that we were simply sitting by a pool at a place we weer seeing friends at. Understandably, it is improper to have 12 guests for the day who all want to swim. But when there are a total or 2 or 3 people visiting, sitting by the pool should not be such a major offense. From now on I guess I'll stay at my own house for fear of someone chasing me away for no apparent reason.

On one more note.....
It's not always what is said, but more times the manner in which it is said. If this woman would have been calmer and simple said..."Ya know boys, we don't want you or anyone else getting into trouble, so why don't you check with your parents before you proceed to use the swimming facilities." or something to that effect, chances are we would have been more understanding. The attitude is what got me.

Hi, guys - Just wanted to let you know if you weren't already aware of it: The Key Largo and the Wildwood condos next door are about to be completely dwarfed within the next two years (depending on CAFRA). The 25-story Martinique Hotel is going to surround these two condo buildings completely on the east side and the south side. The only sun you are going to see there is probably going to be very early in the morning. Just wanted to let you know in case you handn't heard. Have you heard whether any of the condo owners have been approached to sell out to the Martinique? Thom

The attitude is what got me. I agree with this sentiment, 100 percent. I guess my only thought though, Rick, is that perhaps this woman had some previous bad experience with people at this place, and she came across as being very abrasive due to frustration. That is maybe a lot to assume right away (perhaps she was just being flatout rude)... it can be tough to consider all sides. Again, though, I agree that if people would just drop the attitude, most situations can be resolved quickly and with no hard feelings or ill will on either side.

Like I said previously....If she would have told us in a nicer way, it wouldn't have been so offensive. Many times I feel like people look at younger people like we are all animals. I'm not saying I'm an angel because I'm sure I can have my moments as we all can....But at the same time, we're not all bad.....I am finishing my education to be a teacher and I am a manager at work. So I mean we're not all that bad.

I agree.. If she was nicer you would have answered her in a better tone and all would have been well.
