Just got back from 3 days at the Singapore and I was very pleasantly surprised as I know they have had problems in the past. They have a new lady behind the counter who is very nice and although the owners daughter is still around she lays low and lets others do the talking. This is probably because her father and mother were on site all weekend.
They did have someone stay over in the ocean front room I reserved but they moved me and knocked of $50 night.
The room we were in was converted so it could be sold as a condo I believe, they had a wall put up separating the bathroom and bedroom from the living area. The room had a new AC unit and was ice cold even with the heat this past weekend. John the owner said he has no plans to sell the place off as condos at this time.
John came by and we talked to him for over an hour. He has a bad rep but all I can say is he is a very nice man. For those of you who don't know he also owned the palm Beach and The Grand. He told me he built a hotel in WW during the late 50's (forgot the name but it's gone now) and has several businesses all over the country.
The Singapore is for sale for 14 million but he said it's over priced by about 5 million. He really likes the hotel and doesn't want to sell but he did say if he got his price (he seems to know he won't) he would sell it.
We also talked about the condo situation and he says the market is falling and some contractors are facing tough times. He laughed at what the developers gave him for the Palm Beach and Grand saying he was shocked.
