It is like aqua or greenish, the drapes and decor at least. I see many on the list I furnished are already in Doo Wop Heaven, unfortunately, so we can ignore them. The windward is blue, and ones like the "sea gull" or "lu fran" that have some "green" on them have too few letters... beats me

Maybe it is not a motel.
edit. The Sea Scape has some green in it.

That's what I'm thinking. Perhaps something else, like a restaurant or a bar?

Could be. Never thought of that.
I hope not the Sea Scape. Believe it or not, I just noticed that place this year, after always staying at the Cape Cod Inn two blocks away from it. It's small but very charming.

Whatever it is, I have a sickening feeling that it's replacment won't be neo doo-wop, but 4 sided and made of cheap press board covered in vinyl.

Ok, guys - i just wanted to highten the curiosity a little. I didn't mean to give anyone an ulser. (Actually, after I posted the diner pics, I had to get to another meeting and couldn't post the other yet. Plus, I wanted to get a current photo of that one too. By the way, it amazes me how when I mentioned another "Legend," so many of you automatically thought it must be a hotel. The hotels in the Wildwoods aren't the only doo wop we have around here. Just today, I was looking at Mr. D's Pizza on New Jersey Avenue and realized that they have a pretty unique roof, too. I don't know how old Mr. D's is but couldn't that be considered Doo Wop too? Anyway, time to put everyone out of their misery - or into it, I guess. It's NOT a hotel, or, actually it might become one... Last night, the Wildwood PB heard a preliminary discussion on an application to demolish the historic Shamrock Club - which is so important to the musical history of the Wildwoods and Rock and Roll - in favor of a 230' high, 20 story hotel called the "Sandcastle." First off, I was surprised that something this high could be built west of Atlantic Avenue since the ZB had rejected the project at the Binns and Bonito motels 3 times BECAUSE it was too high and too close to residential. Anyway, nothing happened on the application yet because of zoning and legal issues that still need to be resolved. So, there won't be any changes too soon. More details to come..... Here are a couple of pictures - Thom P.S. Thanks, Writhinganacondo, for not giving it away till I had a chance to get the photos!! thom@thewildwoodsreporter.comTheWildwoodsReporter.com

While I am opposed to all high rise hotels above 15 stories, all the others had cool designs. I think this place is just plain ugly. It reminds me of some slum projects from a reject city.

Shamrock trivia:
In 1976 the drinking age in New Jersey was 18, how much did a glass of beer cost at the Shamrock? Their was an older gentleman in the center of the bar that played an instrument. What was the instrument? What was this man’s name, and what was the favor song he played?

Does someone feel like starting a separate Shamrock thread? It probably warrants one, and besides, I'm not quite ready to lay off grumbling about the Wildwood Diner... Don't you just love it when they leave a doomed landmark comatose for months and then administer the killing blow in the height of tourist season with absolutely no regard for visitors' attachment to it? (I couldn't believe they knocked down the Rio Motel in July last year.) Poor Frank, and everyone else who's visiting right now, walking or driving by the fresh ruins of the diner... not exactly a highlight for that album of vacation memories

What was the instrument? What was this man’s name, and what was the favor song he played? In 1973 the drinking age dropped to 18, the Shamrock was SRO and the beers were 7 for $1.00. Appx. 7 oz. glasses. By 1976 it may have dropped to 5 for $1.00. Are you talking about Jim Bulger on the piano? "On the Way to Cape May" and "Roll out the Barrels" were his favorites.

Thanks for the pictures and info, Thom. Do you know if the sign from the Diner was saved? I get the feeling it wasn't... Sorry, but that Sandcastle high rise isn't very attractive, IMO. I'd never imagine something like it in Wildwood. Looks like a high rise apartment building, for a non-resort town.

I agree with doowopper if the hotel looked cool thats one thing. This place looks scary. From what little I heard presented at the meeting, I think the developers are from NY. IMO, there is a BIG difference between people who move here to build a hotel and then stay here to help build the community (like the mom-and-pops) and some big bucks bigshot who only comes here to make a lot of money and couldn't give a da*n about the town. I seem to think these people might be the latter. They obviously don't have a clue about the Wildwoods. Thom
