I heard sirens tonight from the Erma F.D. in Lower Twp and followed them over the two-mile bridge into Diamond Beach. When I crossed the bridge all I could think of was, " Gee, maybe they won't have to blow up the Grande Motel, maybe someone is burning it down." No such luck! Turns out the fire was a small one in a third floor laundry room of the Pier 6600 Motel. They had it out really quick. It was pretty neat to see dozens of fire engines from several different departments turn out for such a small fire. Not to mention every single tourist in the south end of W.C. looking for some action. Oh, well, I guess when the fire departments get a call from a large hotel they have to make it a major turnout just in case it's a big one. Thom

I thought maybe they were trying to put the pier 6600 out of its misery quicker.

Is the pier 6600 not in good shape?

The Pier 6600 is just plain old and ugly....kinda looks as scary as Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory from the original movie.

Well, when I stayed at the pier 6600 a few years ago the woman working the front desk did sightly resemble an oompa loompa. ;D

Of course it was a minor fire. The major ones only happen after the season (how ironic is that?)

If business was poor it would have been a major fire.

Exactly. Or if the land was needed for something else. Better to let a building burn down and collect the insurance money for it rather than pay to have it demolished.
