If you go to the main page of this web site Kathi and click on the demolition news block you can see a picture of the sign lit up in all its past glory.
As I said earlier, if I knew this place was coming down I would have taken a lot of pics. It really looked like a nice place. Its also interesting how small these lots actually are once the motel is gone.

I will throw this question out again. how long do you think it will take to sell the Carriage stop with a price tag of about 7.5 mil?

I suck at Real Estate so I have no clue. What I do know is the MSN home page is full of stuff about how bad the housing market is. Would a developer be willing to risk tons of money to build many more condos in the ultra-saturated Wildwood market? Once again, I have no clue.

Thanks for steering me to that nice picture, Hulk--I don't visit that page much, for reasons I won't risk reiterating ;D except to say that hopefully the "Properties for Sale" page will catch up with the Carriage Stop's status soon... As for your question about the Carriage Stop's likely time on the market at that price, I wish I had a better handle on commercial pricing. It seems a tad high considering some of the prices we have seen posted for properties in the city of Wildwood. But you know the saying... location, location, location, and this is prime Crest real estate, not right on the beach but damn close, with the property in front of it (the Atlantis) being only 3 stories high. So I think it is, unfortunately, highly vulnerable to metastasis of condo cancer even at that price--they probably have the potential to sell multimilion-dollar units here, as the former owners of the Cavalier are planning to do... I hope we'll be able to find out how much it actually sells for and when.

Sure would like to see that coffee shop pic. I think Flickr allows direct linking to message boards, don't they? Or maybe you could just post an URL?

Ok, what is so "valuable" to tear down 50 year old buildings and build condos at millions of dollars? Is it the opportunity to attract people who will pay more taxes because they are in a more valuable property and in a higher income bracket? There seems to be a value all of a sudden in owning property by the water, at the expense of lower end businesses such as amusement parks, motels, and restaurants. I think places that demolish amusement parks for housing are wrong. Such as the plan to replace Myrtle Beach Pavilion with condos for example and Funtown Pier in Seaside with condos. The type of people that would buy the housing probably wouldn't be interested in amusement parks anyway.

I was wondering the same thing....where are all those old signs stored at? I am so happy to see they were saved and seem to be safely preserved.....the Ebb Tide sign however seems as though it needs work but then again, that was one of the first to hit the wrecking ball.

Another thought.....I never noticed how big the HiLili sign really was.....I guess its an illusion....even though it was high up on the building, it never looked that big......
What was the playpen? I never heard of it.

Mike, you slaughtered me with those pictures. I was expecting just some views of the Cavalier signs and the coffee shop. I wasn't prepared for the demolition shots, or the Ebb Tide and Playpen and Ocean Theater signs, and then when I saw the one of the Rio Motel with "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES" up on the marquee, that did it. Wow. I too am wondering what else you can tell us about the signs.

YOU HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES, Robert. If the places were built in 1950 and they are now being replaced, then figure, in about 2056, they'll do the same thing again (or sooner). The REAL young ones today will remember when that "old" building stood there.
