That Ron Saari has some great photos of Wildwood. His pic of The Wildwood Diner is the one that is being used on all the articles coming out on its demise. Yes that Caribbean went for a reasonable price when Montalbano sold it. Often wondered why some of the local dwpl moteliers didn't jump on it. Okay, analysis please........

I heard a rumor that Gary knew how well loved the Caribbean was, and didn't want to become the person who sold the Caribbean to developers and allowed it to be destroyed. I believe he currently owns the Diamond Crest.

Does anyone know if the Carribean was ever in danger of coming down?

It was for sale a couple of years ago, for a (cheap) 3 million. Many people figured it would be bought by a developer due to it's prime location. It was for sale during the time when it seemed everything was either coming down or being sold to a developer. Some un-updated websites featuring the Caribbean and other similar Wildwood Motels in their photo galleries even state in the caption under the Caribbean "This motel is for sale for a low price and will most likely be coming down"

Yes it is. And thank God we didn't lose the Caribbean. It is probably the best example of original Doo-Wop in the world, let alone Wildwood.

I Treasure them all & I wish that the Motels that have been torn down could have stayed, it's what made "The Wildwoods" what it is.

It is a great looking place, its too bad a couple more could not have been saved(e.g Satellite, Casa Bahama they were also doo wop at its finest) The Casa Bahama was also a great example. Unfortunately, even before it was gone it was quite a mess. The neon sign was busted, and the place looked like it could use some elbow grease. Too bad it couldn't be brought back to it's former glory. That A-Frame style was really an eye catcher.

How far out did the roof come onto the deck of the Casa Bahama? What I mean is did the roof cut into the top floor balcony basically making each room on the 2nd floor have its own private balcony. If anyone has close up shots of the Casa Bahama please post them.

If anyone has close up shots of the Casa Bahama please post them. I think you asked this question previously in the big chaotic thread where we were looking at the pictures from the Duke of Music Web site. Remember this shot? Sad to see how few pictures of the Casa Bahama come up on a Google image search, and it's really hard to read the relationship between the peaks and the room faces in any of them. Ditto the one in Beachrat's book although it's surprisingly clear: But from the one on the Overnight Delights page that Robert linked just recently ( www.agilitynut.com/overnight5a.html ), I get the impression that there is a gap behind the peaks that people could pass through to traverse the balcony. Eric, are you there? Got anything definitive on this question?
