Hi, I am interested in finding several different motel rooms that are still quite tacky/ kitschy inside for a photo shoot.
A lot of the images of the rooms that I have seen on the internet look more modern or renovated even though the outside of the buildings retain their doo-wop feel.
Can anyone give me some recommendations?
Thanks so much.

The bedroom looks newer than the kitchen.
Can you say what the photo shoot is for, Trudy? How about a newly renovated place, but done up with some of the earlier flair - like the Starlux, Caribbean, Shalimar...? Welcome!

Hi Trudy,
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but I have a production company and have had to shoot in a lot of strange places, so maybe I can help.
If you're doing something fashion-related, the Starlux is "new doo-wop", but the colors are great and I've always thought it deserved a photo shoot. The only problem....and it's the same with most places....is that the rooms are on the small side by today's standards, but the Starlux has some suites and lots of lava lamps. They also have a pretty cool lounge area.
I haven't been in a lot of the motels, but if you're looking for a more "lived-in" feel, I'd check out the Gold Crest and the Singapore...only because they're for sale so chances are they haven't been updated for awhile. And the Bel Air....I'm not sure if they've re-done their rooms yet and it has a cute, kitschy exterior. The Carribean, as someone mentioned, is updated doo-wop on the inside and original and really beautiful on the outside. The Lollipop might also be worth a look. I know it's been re-done but I've heard it's still pretty kitschy.
Another thought......the DWPL has salvaged some great old stuff including some of the old original neon motels signs, which could be a great background, if that fits in with your plans.
I don't live in the area, so I'm sure there are people on this board who could be a lot more help. These are just a few thoughts.

One more thought......have you looked at Summer Nites? it's a bed and breakfast. Every suite has a theme - 50's, Elvis, etc. The kitschiest place I've seen...and I mean that in a very good way. Might not be what you're looking for...but it's unique.

The bathrooms of the Tangiers look to original from the 50's. Completly titled in aqua blue and pink and if you want to see a complete early 70's room from top to bottom go to the pier 6600. They have not done any indoor remodeling of that place since it opened.

I walked through the Sea Chest a couple of years ago....I don't think it's been renovated in a while. You can see pictures of the rooms on their website. It's a small motel from the 50's.

The Cape Isle Court on 9th Street between Atlantic and Surf Ave is best example of doo wop and older culture I've seen in Wildwood since before the Sand Dollar re-opened some years back.

I've passed the Sea Chest many times. One of those nice little places that's managed to weather the demo storm.

Thank you to everyone who wrote suggestions. If you think of any other places, please let me know. I can't wait to go to Wildwood; the photos don't seem to do it justice. I know that the big 50's weekend is coming up, but do the motels shut down after that? I can't get there right away.
I'm working on a self-portrait project inside interesting motels. If any other locations in the Northeast come to mind, please let me know.
Thanks so much.
