If any of you folks from the Philly/South Jersey area felt the Earth shake a bit around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, do not be alarmed. It was me falling to the ground while listening to Ernie Troiano's message in my telephone message box. I missed him. If his number is listed, I think I will attempt to call him tonite at home. Meanwhile, now's your chance. If you have any thoughts relating to affordable housing in Wildwood, then post them, and I will be sure to include them in any conversation that I have with him. I attempted to call Ernie at his home and business phone numbers and hooked up with his business answer machine. I left a message briefly pitching the need for local housing for low and moderate income wage earners and told him I would call again next week since we are going away this weekend. Again, if anyone has any questions, concerns, or ideas relating to the affordable housing issue, post them, and I will be sure to mention them when I do get in contact with Ernie. In his message to me, Troiano mentioned that Wildwood is doing some things in the area of inclusionary housing and has been doing so...more than some other area shore communities have done. I understand and appreciate his remarks in that regard, but I would much rather avoid pointing fingers, playing the "blame game," and arguing about who does or did what with this issue...instead, I would much rather focus on ideas and solutions. Perhaps, Wildwood could take a positive, constructive lead role in addressing this growing countywide problem. Personally, I am wondering if the City of Wildwood owns any ground within its proposed inclusionary housing zone. If so, perhaps, it could be touted as a possible site for a garden apartment complex.

Ed, Good job, someone responded. You may want to call Papa John's, the Mayors Family own's it. He could be making the pizza I recall reading something about affordable housing in Wildwood, think it might be Ottens's Harbor, but not sure. It was last summer or fall as I recall. Couldn't find anything on the net. re

Affordable housing may begin rising more to the forefront of our local social...political, economic consciousness. I just had a very nice phone conversation with Ann Marie from the Cape May County Association of Realtors. I called her to get some imput into the validity of my concerns. Ann Marie sees it as, indeed, a legitimate local issue. She referred me to a local realtor, Chris Clemans, who used affordable housing as part of her platform when running for a state office within the real estate industry recently. I will give her a call next week and see if I can chew the fat a bit with her before I talk to Ernie. At this point, I think I am going to see when I can meet with him in person in a relaxed setting, by the way.

Here is an e-mail that I sent to Chris Clemans last Friday:
"Greetings, Chris. I had a very pleasant conversation with Ann Marie from the Cape May County Association of Realtors this morning regarding affordable housing. She referred me to you. When is a good time to call you during the day? If possible, I would like your input...basically to validate my concerns...before I discuss this issue with Ernie Troiano, mayor of Wildwood. Take care."
There has been no reply.
