Hunt's Pier.
Anything less just wouldn't be Wildwood.

Talked to my mom on the weekend. Yep, the bathrooms were so small that you backed into it. She said it was the size of a closet and there was only a toilet. You had to wash your hands in the kitchen sink!
My mom laughed when she was telling the story, because this was our first trip to Wildwood and when my Grandmother told her we were staying in a boarding house, my mom wanted to make sure our room had its own bathroom. Funny, our next stay was to upgrade to the Avalon Motel! After many years of staying there, then we ventured over to the Shore Plaza and then to our beloved Packard Motel.
When we stayed at the packard the last time before it was demolished, we would sit by our rooms and look over at the Avalon House and watch their dog go in and out of the side window which was at ground level of the pool and walk around the pool area!
does anyone know if the owners of the Avalon are still alive or are the children now running the motel?

Try staying in a small room with three kids. I'll never forget when we found a motel room and when we opened the door, I almost fell over! It was so small that we had to put half of the baby's crib in the closet so we'd have room to go to the bathroom! And you know, now that you mention it, I'm trying to remember how we did find a room. I really don't think we had reservations all the time so we probably drove around looking for vacancies. That was WAY before computers.

But you sure can't do that today. Most places you have to stay at least 2 or more days.

We always decided last minute lets go to wildwood for the week - would drive down and go hotel to htoel looking for the best deal. We use to go in June so there was always a room available. No reservations just stop in. Those were the days

Anyone remember the big Wildwood sign going into Wildwood at exit 6 on the Garden State Parkway? That was how I really knew I was finally there...I would bring that back in a minute. ;D

Of course, I'd bring back Hunt's Pier. But I'd also bring back the indoor Merry-Go-Round. It's the first ride I remember. And the Jack Rabbit. And maybe the Starlight Ballroom because I never got to go there.
