Does anyone here remember cozy morley and his famous place that he made fun of referring to the open rafters and wires along with the old long tables.

Chris, sure do remember Cozy Morley and his Club Avalon. There's a statue of him outside of Westy's, he's still around. We ran into him at the Vergas a few years ago in early May, and had a nice chat. He use to work some of the AC casinos, not sure he still does? He's certainly part of the Wildwoods' past culture.

Being only 26, I never had the opportunity to experience Cozy live. But my parents, aunts and uncles still talk about his act to this day. They used to see him annually at the Avalon, and up in A.C. My grandfather used to have a tape recording of one of Cozy’s performances. I remember listening to it years ago. He was certainly a “piece of work,” no?

Al...I've heard a few stories on this....He use to sing that at his clubs and also made a record. But...I don't think he is the original maker....

Thanks, chris.
Yeah, I guess we know that he definitely made the song famous, but I also have heard conflicting stories about him writing the song as well.
Hmmm...

Al & Chris, I also heard conflicting reports of who worte "on the way to cape may" Heard it was Cozy several times, then Al Albert had/has a CD with the song on it. Just did a quick websearch, seems Bud Nugent is credited with the words + music, in 1960. Al's CD is still available around the area
There are several "other" versions of the song.

Thanks for the info, wildre!
That definitely clears things up. I’d love to grab a copy of Bud Nugent’s CD for my parents.
Speaking of the other “Double A,” Al Albert and Al Alven once met each other in Ocean City. Man, was that introduction ever confusing!

Cozy joined the the band on Peggy's Patio behind Keenan's in North Wildwood for a few songs Friday night. It was great to see him.

My parents took me way back when - I can't even remember or how old I was but I do remember those long tables and for some odd reason - life size puppets???

I would love to ask Cozy his opinions on what is happening in the Wildwoods today.
He's such a classic, longtime fixture on the island, I'm surprised no one has done a newspaper feature on this very topic.
Perhaps I should look into it...

Al, maybe you could put an interview with Cozy up on your site, if he's interested.

I respect Cozy Morley for his efforts and providing years of entertainment. He kept people coming back "down the shore." But honestly, the show I experienced was laced with racist humor. (I guess we refer to it euphemistically as "simpler times?") I would like to tip the hat to Mark Vito for sticking around and even "going Doo Wop" with his Club Casba after he hit the lottery. (Of course, "The Don" will tip the hat to himself for sticking around, as you'll see if you go to a show.) I saw two different shows where I literally hurt from laughter. Try it sometime..it rivals shows in AC for a fraction of the cost. I swear.
