Does anyone know what happened to the flyer carts or the keystone kops cars and klowns? There is a website, funchase.com, that shows pics of abandoned hunts and sportland pier rides and it looks as though the flyer carts along with a few keystone kops cars and the log flume letters are sitting in fields rotting. Who would let that happen?  |

I suppose when Hunt's Pier was torn apart they took a lot of the stuff to the storage area where they stored things for the winter, it's located between Rio Grande and Cape May just north of the Cold Spring Vilage.

Who would let that happen? yes, it breaks my heart too, especially spending my childhood/teen years in WW in the late 60's to 1980 like I said in previous posts. But I think, sadly, it is just a cold reality, aside from some collectors or nostalgics, they are like abandoned buildings or junk cars sitting in a junk yard. as long as there is no money to be made from them, they will continue to sit there. I think if I ever hit the Powerball lottery for like $200M, I would try to get the original plans and recreate the entire thing. Even if it ended up being a total loss, who cares, realistically I only have like 40 or 50 more years to live at most, and I would never be able to spend all of that money anyway. |

Im heading to ww this week maybe I'll spend some time on a scavenger hunt.
Its a nice dream. I think Ill play the lottery today.

It's too bad that there is no way to raise the money by setting up some type of Chapter S corporation and selling stock, so it wouldn't be a "donation", but rather, everyone would have a stake in it, like a small business. I'm sure it would not be that complicated, and with the right advertising, etc., we would be able to get enough people together so it would not require us all to take second mortgages on our houses  . The pier is just sitting there now anyway. |

There are many stories on what happened to the Flyer cars. Not sure which ones to believe.
To rebuild a coaster like the Flyer would cost about $2 million. PTC still has the blueprints and still manufactures wood coaster "rolling stock" so it could easily be done if someone had the money. Since many of Hunt's other rides were custom jobs, I'm not sure what it would cost to rebuild them, but probably figure at least a million for something like the Keystone Kops and more for a flume or SKUA. All said and done, you're probably talking about $25 million. if not more.
If someone gets the ball rolling, I'd be glad to donate!

I have to agree with CV here. 2 mil is too cheap to make a new flyer. 4 mil is closer to what it would cost..

It was not that big of a coaster So I would say about 2.5 million these days. I know that the wildcat at hershey was like 6 million and that was around 1996 and thats a huge woodie. The wildcat is most likley about 5 or 6 Flyers in one. |

I have no idea about such things, so I can't even venture a guess as to how much rebuilding the Flyers might cost.
I would have to think, though, that if a "new" Flyer were to show up, it would have to bigger and a bit bolder, to compete in any way with the Great White and the other coasters on the island.
The real question, then, is would it be worth it?
I'd definitely ride a re-built Flyer, but after the nostalgia factor wore off, and with giants like the Great White around, could it possibly be profitable?
I just don't think it would.
