Maybe it changed its name to Scream machine the year the castle opened? 1977? The cars and props are still inside the nugget.

I believe the name was changed when the castle was built. It was originally called the Scream Machine but I think that pressure from Six Flags over Georgia (which had the Great American Scream Machine) forced the changing of the name from Scream Machine to Screem Machine. And I think the last year for the coaster was 1985, although it could have been 1984. I have the date somewhere but I'm too lazy to look for it.

The coaster was demolished in the fall of 1984. The final rides were September, 1984. There's an article about it here www.netaxs.com/~gg1/jr/ and here www.netaxs.com/~gg1/jr/jra3.htm There's a nice view of the coaster and castle from the air on the last page. 1985 is when the Nickels built the pier and brought in the rides including the Katapult coaster.

I second that! What a great ride. Looking at the pic where you can see down the first drop, under the loading area, reminded me how thrilling it was. It gave you the feeling you were going to hit your head on the track above! There was an opportunity to check out the WW skyline as you cruised around the top track before the first drop. Ride length was just right. That ride had character that you can't get on todays monster 'coasters. Another example of bigger isn't always better.

such a shame, jack rabbit/scream machine was a darn good coaster.

Wish I had ridden it before it was torn down. The impact of that loss hit me years later (probably after the loss of the Flyer).
