That's anywhere, though. Some beautiful historical buildings sometimes just sit there abandoned until it's too late.

Well, I hate to be the one to break bad news. But...I was in the Wildwoods last mid-week enjoying the very end of the warmish fall weather. While roaming the boards, my husband and I saw several uniformed men looking over the Golden Nugget. One of them (Bob Asnell I believe) reported that they were planning out the process by which they would distmantle the Golden Nugget. They felt the time had come, the ride was "too far gone," and they wanted to do some repairs to the actual boardwalk structure beneath the ride. When asked if they had any plans to save the ride, he said "no," but didn't elaborate. He said the excavation process would be tough and that they were planning it for the late winter, weather dependent...hoping to have all cleared before the next tourist season.
So...if you want any more momentos of this little piece of wildwood history, do so now.

If that is indeed the case, that is a shame. What a waste.

Please don't say this is true. I thought the Morey's were all for restoring the Nugget. I never thought the day would come that the Nugget would actually be DEMOLISHED. It is my belief that the Morey's wanted nothing to do with Hunt's Pier from the beginning (1999) and that they were planning the Nugget's removal since day one. Someone said somewhere on a forum that Jack Morey himself said that the Nugget will never run again because it doesn't meet newer building codes. Hunt's Pier is history. It will just be one big concrete slab for whatever the Morey's wants to put on it. Bud Hunt and Vince Kostek will probably roll in their graves.

Depressing news, if true. Thanks for passing this along, novacancy. Even in its dilapidating state, the Golden Nugget remains an icon. I still can't imagine the landscape of the Boardwalk without it hovering in the background there. Obviously, if the ride is to be dismantled, I'm sure the Moreys will take a load of undeserved flack. The organization, by all accounts, looked into every option with regard to the possiblity of renovating and reopening the Nugget. If you really want to play the "blame game," look back at the owners who had the pier prior its acquisition by the Moreys. The Nugget probably could have been "saved" at one time, but, realistily, the window probably closed several years ago. Ah, well. I guess I'll still hope against hope (and rational thought) that something can be done to save this classic piece of Wildwood history and Americana... at least until we hear something official...

It was almost definate with wishing that it wouldn't happen. Like i said in a post before that this was my uncle's favorite ride ever since he was a kid. I guess I'll have to break the news to him. Well, i'll be going down tomorrow for one of my (possibly) last times to see it. If only I could go up that ramp and look out on the beach from the holes on the side again. I don't know why but that was my favorite part of the ride. Probably anticipation.

I have sent an email to Morey's and are awaiting their response.

After coming back from Disney World last week, I would love to see the Golden Nugget back in operation. I think it would be a great improvement to the piers if the nugget was restored! The creativity of this ride should stir up alot of attention!

Don't get your hopes up, Crazy, it could be dismantled over this winter. Read novacancy's post.

Sad indeed, but as Al said fault the owners who had the pier before the Moreys. Nothing was done at all to even try to maintain this ride after it closed some 8 years ago. Kristen, if you are out there you need to jump in on this post.

What a waste. Maybe they can turn it into a doo wop museum.

Novacancy- Are you 100% sure this information is accurate?? I just saw this thread... IF it is true, I am going to be super pissed. I want to see that ride one more time before it's "dismantled"... let's hope I can get there in time before that happens.
(Ironically, I just spent my weekend working on a new page for the Hunt's Pier website... please take a look if you get a chance.) -Kristen
