I know this sounds crazy and dangerous, but has anyone ventured into the Golden Nugget or is it all locked up? I went to wildwood this summer after not being there in 2 years and I was surprised to see it still standing. What a waste to leave it just rot there.

Entering that ride at anytime is illegal, as it is invading a potentially fatal and private property.

trespassing on any property is illegal.
trespassing on a ride after hours, or on an abandoned ride, is lunacy. who would attempt it?

Hello Eden- Yes, the Nugget is still standing and it's been out of commission for many years now.... so sad it's going to waste! I haven't been inside the ride since I have been a kid but I have heard some horror stories about the structure, walls, tricks, etc. I wouldn't suggest trying to break in because there are security guards and cameras placed all over the parks. I'm still waiting for the Moreys to start doing SOMETHING / ANYTHING to make this ride operational again... maybe 2008, 2009, 2010. -Kristen

The Nugget is not in as bad as shape as some are led to believe. Although there has been, I'm sure, some cosmetic changes in the past two years, (those winter storms sure are rough) here are some more recent photos of the Nugget from a trek through back in 2004. www.laffinthedark.com/articles/wildwood/wwd9.htmAs you can see, much is still intact.

The problem is that it takes money to restore something and perhaps there is a more pressing project that needs to be done. I'm wondering why it operated every year from 1960 until the 90's, but then started having problems, perhaps it had something to do with the Hunt's commitment to the business, and even the owner after the Hunt's 1986-1990 operated it with all the other rides that he destroyed then by the 90's Hunt's went bankrupt because they owed money, and then different owners ran the pier and the Nugget was shut certain years like 1992, 1995, and 99-present. I think it was shut in 92 because an operator couldn't be found that year, I saw an article at the museum that states the Nugget was SBNO in 92 and Anthony has shots of the pier from then after most of the rides were cleared off the pier. In 95 it was shut because the Catanoso brothers just acquired the pier that year and they weren't ready to open it because it needed work, yet it ran the previous two years I heard along with the Hunt's Horror (Whacky Shack) which was shut in 95 and removed before Dino Beach for whatever reason. I heard it was scrapped, although the props might have survived. I guess each owner had their own reason for removing the classic Hunt's rides. I'm sure Vince was upset at the destruction of the classic rides that he worked so hard to help build. But, you can't tell new owners what to do with their property. They have a right to tear down what they want to tear down, no matter how valuable or historic or sentimental the ride is. Also the newer owners thinking was that they had to keep up with the times, get rid of the old, bring in the new to lure the young people in.

People seem to think that the building is ready to collapse but I seriously doubt that is the case. I am fairly certain that the structure itself is in good shape (after all, most of it is protected from the elements by thick concrete) and with the entrances to the building closed off, I would bet that a lot of the stuff inside is in decent shape, or at least no worse than it was when Dinosaur Beach closed. A friend of mine walked through part of the ride last year with someone from Morey's but I don't think he has any pictures.

I would like to believe something will be done with the nugget but I am no longer getting my hopes up. I think you have a better chance of seeing the hunt's shooting gallery resurface.

And why is it just sitting there? That's why things cost so much to renovate; they let them sit and sit and sit.
