its a beautiful lil park! You will love it!!! We have been there many times.. we changed our hershey visit date to aug 31st.. Have fun Frank! We will be in Lancaster next weekend including a trip to Dutch Wonderland. Have never been there! Hershey Park is a very nice park. It is much nicer than any six flags park that I've been to. Coincidentally, Dutch Wonderland is owned by Hershey.

I have never been to Dutch Wonderland. Is that park mainly for the younger kids? Do they have adult rides there?

I have never been to Dutch Wonderland. Is that park mainly for the younger kids? Do they have adult rides there? Probably the only "adult" rides are the roller coaster and the log flume, and perhaps the bumper cars and old fashioned train, and monorail that traverse the park. Maybe a handful of others. But it's awesome for the under 8 yrs old crowd, since they can basically go on everything. A nice waterpark too. we love it! www.dutchwonderland.com/index.asp

Has anyone ever gone to Knoebel's Grove in Elysburg, PA? It's a free admission amusement park/camp ground that is a great day trip? Close to us so we can get there a couple of times each summer. If you're in central PA it's worth a look-see.

A couple of really great coasters and good food. Decent pool and a water ride called the Sploosh. Pretty good haunted house, too. Well landscaped and maintaine--you ought to go back and take the kids if you have any.

I love Knoebels because it reminds me so much of what Dorney Park "used" to be like. It's more relaxing and not as over-powering as Dorney is with their awful crowds. Knoebels has had their share of devastation with flooding but they always seemed to bounce back and re-open. It's a family-owned park; which you really don't find much of anymore. I've been going there for MANY years, but I've never really used the pool so I wouldn't know about the underwater music. As a matter of fact, I think that's how the park started out; with the picnic grounds and the pool.

Knoebels got flooded again this summer. They really do bounce back. There's a wooden bridge there that crosses a stream and it's marked with all the high water stages from floods throughout the years. Central and eastern PA and parts of NJ really got hammered this summer. Wasn't much of a pool user so I don't know much about underwater music. The park still very much has a relaxed feeling and is still family owned. They are always striving to keep it that way.

That's what I like about it. I have a picture of my daughter and son standing in front of a tree that shows the water-mark from the flood of "72. Darkinthepark wedsite has alot of really good pictures of Knoebels when it got flooded. It's amazing how they really cleaned it up so fast.

I read something that Cripp wrote on another site or thread that stated that Knoebels patrons didn't have a very deep gene pool. I did giggle a little at that because, yes, you'll see a heap of Nascar T-shirts, John Deere hats, and most likely hear a country-western band playing live--but, really, it's a nice park. We also have many first-rate colleges and universities as well as a stellar medical center about ten miles from the park. I consider my gene pool to be fairly deep...but Cripp, I still love reading you because like I said...you crack me up!!

I'm glad you brought that up Pam, because I was about to make the same comment again. But that was my honest opinion that day I visited the park....not that I thought everyone came from a shallow gene pool...just about half of the people.

On the day you visited it's nice to know that the deeper gene pool won!

Hi Flyin,
I hope you will get to Knoebels and that you will enjoy it. You'll have to make your own judgement. If you do go you should try to go in August during the week of the LL World Series and also attend some games. Free if you sit on the hillside (the best view of the game). That's a nice experience too. I don't know how old your son is but, if and when he's into baseball, he'll love it.
