Robert, solve this problem if x=Castle Dracula and y is equivalent to the amount of vinyl siding on a new cookie-cutter condo.
x(2-y) * 1/y(2^3)

Homer, after reading that article, I feel like Ernie and the Council are turning the city over to the developers. So 2 words "impact fees", if you're going to make it easier on them to built then let them pay for the privilege. www.impactfees.com/re

I think some of these new hi-rise motels will bring back somewhat of a doo-wop feel to the island. If these projects are done the right way it can also be a good shot in the arm for the ww economy. On a seperate issue I think Robert needs to build a time machine and go back to the year 1985.

Yeah, where is Doc Brown when I need him? I want the old Wildwood back. The changes are happening way too fast. Someone made a big boo-boo by allowing unchecked development to occur. And not to mention the Hunt's Pier destruction in '89, as well as '99 when the Morey's took over. The Castle fire that could have been prevented if those bums at the water park would have hired winter security guards like the Nickels did. Now it appears Hunt's Pier is being altered further, the old Hunt's Pier Golf sign is being removed, and there is something being built on the front of the pier. Looks like there won't be a Flyer II. They're building stuff where the old Flyer used to sit. And what's up with the Golden Nugget? No activity? Is there any chance that the Morey's will get a new dark ride besides what they have now?

It's the letters that have been gone for years, the ones that said HUNT'S PIER in red, and Skyline in cursive, and GOLF in green. Those letters are in storage between Rio Grande and Cape May exposed to the elements at Hunt's old maintanence/storage facility by a school. There's a bunch of parts there from Hunt's Pier rides that were dismantled. It's the pylon that is being removed. The pic on ths site that Thom took shows the skeleton frame of it. For the past several years it was just pained white, and during the Dino Beach years "DINOSAUR beach" was painted on it. Not sure when the Hunt's Pier letters were removed, early 90's? I wasn't at WW between 86-94. I was there prior to 86, and between 95-98 exculding 97. So, I wasn't there when the Kamikaze was there, or the walk-through haunted house on Hunt's Pier, or since the Castle Dracula fire or the theater and motel demolitions. The last time I was there every motel was intact, both theater buildings were there near Nickels, the castle was standing and operating, the Nugget was operating. That year was June 98. I haven't been back since then. I think I ate in the Surfside Restaurant and Schumann's. And saw the Satellite Motel, Casa Bahama, Three Coins, 24th St., Packard, Captain's Table, and so on. All gone now. Remember, an SUV in every garage. Oh, yeah, did I mention that I actually was in Ed Zaberer's and ate there in the early 80's? So many rooms. And the Tiffany lamps. I remember the small game room with Pac-Man. So much history in the trash.

Robert, I suggest you make another trip to Wildwood. It's been what, 8 years since your last visit? (1998-last time Robert was in Wildwood) Things are not nearly as bad as you may "think" they are. Either come see for yourself or go find yourself a time machine. Safe travels, Robert.

It's been advertising Go Karts for the past few years. Do you seriously care about the removal of a moldy old sign for something that hasn't been there in many many years?

Well, the only thing the WW's are doing is continuing to "throw away" their history. More motel demolitions seem to be coming. WW was stuck in a time warp for many years, but now WW is being discovered by people who do not have WW's best interests at heart. They may call it "progress" when old buildings are razed for new buildings, but the heart and soul is being destroyed in the progress. Unless they can design new buildings with individual doo-wop flavors rather than the same standard all over, such as neo-Victorian. It's gotten to the point where 90% of WW Crest will be residential. (no motels, restaurants, clubs, or any other public business in a certain block radius) There's a map on a WW Crest website it shows residential in green and motel in blue along the beach. The green covers nearly all the inland blocks away from the beach which apparently will be all condos once all the motels and restaurants in that area are leveled. The 21st century WW will be radically different than the 20th century WW that most of you older people grew up with. I'm sure Steve Izenour is turning in his grave, as well as Bud Hunt, and any other WW businessmen who made WW for what it was only to have thier work destroyed by idiots who know not what they are doing. The Morey's are the only ones keeping the amusement rides alive, everyone else basically called it quits or scaled back their operations.

There was a reason for this, the Morey's established dominance on the boards that no one else could really compete with. I reccommend a trip to Wildwood to actually see how it is then just making simple accusations.

I was able to squeeze out a little more info about this project. Where to start ....
The project is definitely two buildings. The first encompasses the The Wildwood Diner, The Tropicana Motel, The AA Heart of WW, and all other properties between the Heart of WW and the WW Diner on the Spencer side of the block only (sort of an "L" shaped building). The other building encompasses The Riviera Motel, The Stardust Motel, and all other properties up but not including to the Calypso Hotel. That is, this one is pretty much square shaped, and doesn't include anything from the Calypso to Atlantic Ave. (e.g. Calypso, Skylark Motel, and a few small houses facing Spencer are excluded).
Looks like it is supposed to be 375-ish units and 85 of them are going to be hotel units. The other 288 (or so) are mostly condos with a few townhouse type units (multi-floor condos, I imagine). Looks like it is running a little short on hotel units. I thought I heard the other proposed condotels (or whatever we are calling them) where staying close to 50% hotel, 50% everything else. Seems like we shouldn't be demolishing our treasures for such a small number of guaranteed hotel rooms.

Thanks for the info. By the way, what's up with the Oceanic Motel? Has it been demolished yet? Isn't there plans to put up something like this on that site as well? The Oceanic, the Cork and Bottle Liquor Store, the Days Inn, and anything else on that one city block have been approved already to become the Wildwood Beach Resort Hotel. Actually, it was the second condotel to be approved; there have now been four approvals and a fifth to come up on Monday, the 13th (the Riviera). I heard they are going to open as normal for at least one more season. They're probably waiting for construction permits from CAFRA, which take an unusually long time to get. The Nouveau Wave at Rio and Ocean is still waiting for its permits but expects to begin construction sometime in the next few weeks. Thom TheWildwoodsReporter.com

A couple quick notes/questions...
First off, I have been meaning for some time to point out how dedicated the owners of the Oceanic Motel are, and how much care and pride they put into their property.
I noticed that they sunk a good amount of money into renovations last offseason, and apparently are coming back with a few more upgrades this year... despite this being the motel's final season of existence!
Having stayed at the doomed 24th Street Motel (which was basically allowed to go to hell, condition-wise), last season, I really, really appreciate what they have done and continue to do.
The Oceanic received an entirely new exterior paint job last season (I prefer the old color to the new blue, but that's just personal preference), and they did a lot of work on their "Barefoot Bar," in addition to other added upgrades and amenities.
The owners truly deserve to be applauded for this!
Now, as for the Wildwood Beach Hotel itself, I too have heard that this new entity will replace more than just the Oceanic. Thus, I am assuming that the rendering they have released (the one Thom posted above) will be updated.
Reason being, you can clearly see the eastern end of the Days Inn immediately to the lower left of the proposed hotel in the rendering.
Lastly, just as a random aside, does anyone know what the Days Inn was before it became the Days Inn? The building is an original from the 60s, though I'm not sure when the chain took over from the original owners.
