I was under the impression that Wildwood was the Doo Wop capital of South Jersey.
Jerry Blavat's Doo Dop II Review Sands Casino Atlantic City, NJ Sun, Oct 8, 2006 7:00 PM .
Perhaps people in the Wildwoods are losing interest in Doo Wop.

I think more then anything it has to be that in AC, people will spend a little more money than they will in Wildwood. Doo Wop is alive and kickin in the Wildwoods!

Jerry Blavat is one of our icons here; the "Geater with the heater, along with thingy Clark, Bobby Rydell, Frankie, Chubbie, Fabian, and all the other legends of the Doo Wop and Rock and Roll eras" helped create everything we are here in the Wildwoods. He plays in AC, He plays at "Memories" in Margate, he plays at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Shawcrest. That's OK! The Wildwoods is still the true birthplace of Rock and Roll and the Doo Wop capital of the world. Thom

I agree with Rick and Thom.
wildwood6, why would you think the Wildwoods are "losing interest in Doo Wop" just because a "Doo Wop" review is being held elsewhere?
Jerry Blavat is a Wildwood icon, but he's been doing his thing all around the area forever now.

Gee, it's been years since I've heard about Jerry Blavat! I watched his shows all the time, many years ago. So he's still active in all this?

Sometimes on a Sunday night if you're driving down Rt. 49, Jerry Blavat will be passing by pretty fast looking like he's late to get somewhere lol

I agree with Rick and Thom. wildwood6, why would you think the Wildwoods are "losing interest in Doo Wop" just because a "Doo Wop" review is being held elsewhere? Having just returned home from another long weekend in Wildwood, I’ll be happy to give you a few examples just off the top of my head. But first I would just like to say the City of Wildwood did an excellent job this past weekend. The Woodstock concert on Saturday was excellent and well attended. Same goes for the block party at Fox Park yesterday. Last night’s WWE event at the convention center again was fun and well attended. Wildwood keep up, the good work. So here are a few observations that I have noticed in the past years. Have you notice the hundreds of Doo Wop era motels and buildings that have been replaced in the past few years with modern construction? How about the Doo Wop trolley tours that have been replaced by the Doo Wop yellow school bus tours due to LACK of customers. (Renting the trolleys was just not profitable). The Doo Wop weekend help in October (non prime time) that is only attended by a few thousand people. (Last night’s WWE event had a larger crowd), now what’s that tell you. What about the big announcement that was made at the concert on Saturday night that next year Wildwood will be hosting a three day Wildwood Woodstock event in July on the beach with between 40 and 50 bands (starting Friday night and going to Sunday), the key word here being Woodstock (70’s) not Doo Wop. How about the placement of the new Doo Wop museum? How many on this board can name the streets that border this location without looking it up? Fox Park is a nice park but lightly traveled by the majority of the people that visit Wildwood. Don’t forget where the Doo Wop Museums originally came from. If you recall Wildwood Crest sold it to Wildwood for $1.00 because they did not want it.

Fox park is bordered by Montgomery Avenue and Burk and Ocean and Atlantic. The Surfside Restaurant wasn't sold because they didn't want it, it was to SAVE IT. Sorry, but I don't quite understand the point of some of your musings. Are you for them or against them? Thom

Thom Woodstock was the summer of 69 however if you recall most of the bands peeked in the early or mid seventies. As for the museum if the crest wanted it then why sell it to wildwood? As for my feelings about Doo Wop, I’m for anything that will improve the current Wildwood. I just don’t believe that Doo Wop is going to attract the numbers that are needed to keep the city moving in the right direction. Since you are from Wildwood of course you know the location of the park. Has anyone ever done a study of the shade lines that will affect the museum if the 25 story project planned on Burk and Ocean ever gets approved? Will we be able to enjoy the summer concerts in the sun?
