Tomorrow we're buying our new home - a cute 1961 home and I want to go all retro! I would love to know of some resources, design ideas, etc... some of the home is original. I'll have to post a photo of the kitchen - completely untouched since 1961! The countertop is in new condition with cute 60's graphics! Even the closet has cute shelf lining with sputnicks and groovy shapes! Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the great links! The house is in Winslow Township. It's a cute brick rancher. It's really dirty, 'though and the previous owners did some funky things to the bathroom (not funky in a cool way, either). The majority of the home was repainted in the 80's so all that "80's carp" has to go! There are ugly large blinds on the windows (I'm going to make groovy curtains!) and the walls were painted a light purple with a large hot pink stripe at the top of the rooms. I'm just glad the kitchen was spared this ugliness!

Modlinda: Found the neatest retro doo wop tables today. They definately are WW. They remind me of the Jetsons. Elongated tear drops width wise, glass tops with wood about 6 inches under the glass with a light colored wood with chrome/metal. It was a set of three cocktail and end tables. My local furniture store has them in the clearance area. If interested for the manufacturer of these the store is Lastick Furniture in Pottstown, the tables are in clearance in the back part of room. Their number is 1-610-323-4000

Here's a retro kitchen design for under $1000: www.jitterbuzz.com/kit500.htmlI am curently remodeling our NW bungalow. The kitchen will be DooWop themed. Here is a sneak peek at our countertop: Formica has just reissued the Skylark and VirrVarr laminates...Dig it! www.formica.com/publish/site/na/us/en/index/laminate/new.html"Classics -- New to the palette, classic patterns are back to make any countertop surface retro-right on." I'll post pics when It's near completion, but don't hold your breath. The plumbing and heating are already a little too retro...first things first. The place is currently gutted.

I am curently remodeling our NW bungalow. The kitchen will be DooWop themed. Here is a sneak peek at our countertop: They used that pattern for the tables at the Pink Cadillac Diner, though with different colors to the pattern. Sounds like part of the movie The Money Pit - the plumber comes to the house, gives a quote without even looking things over, Tom Hanks then asks if he's going to look at his pipes. The plumber then said to him something like "I looked at them 5 years ago, you figure they've improved with age?"

My favorite line from "The Money Pit" was from the painter (after Tom Hanks points out that he just completed painting the hallway in the wrong color): "Oh, great! Now I gotta clean my paint gun!"

Blue!?! I want nothing blue! He was a "work animal". The foreman had a really great line about the permit man. "Oh, you really steamed his clams. He's said he'll be back when you grow utters and get milked." Then the permit man eventually shows up, thinks Tom Hanks is laughing at him while he's chocking because he's stuck in a hole in the floor, and says "I hear you laughing at me in there Fielding!" "I'm tearing up your permit, you duckfart!" So many quotable, classic lines in that movie - at least I think so...
