Modlinda: Hope all is well in your new home. I found the greatest collection of fifties memorabilia, and wonderful conditioned metal kitchen tables and chairs. They are at Adams Antiques on Rt. 222 in Adamstown PA. Right off the Pa Turnpike. The area is full of shops, well worth a trip.

ModLinda, Looks like you have lots of work ahead of you. My Mother had that very same dishwasher years ago, sans the contac paper, is that carpet in the kitchen? I had a house with carpet in the kitchen, I hated it. It sure looks like the house has great "bones". Look forward to more pix as you go along.

Frank, It does, that's what I get for not enlarging the pix on my laptop. Well the floor pattern does still look like that carpeting I had in that kitchen.

The kitchen had carpeting. It literally disintegrated as we pulled it up. It was so yucky! The former owner (it was a doctor's office) never cleaned it. In fact, I don't think he cleaned anything! It's now our home and doctor's office again (my husband's a D.C.)! Here are some after shots - we're far from done, however: Kitchen after - we still have some work but not much. The cabinets cleaned-up nicely! Here's the fireplace shot after. My husband re-did the floors. The door is still grey because we want to strip it - can you believe they painted nice wood?? Here's a close-up of the cool atomic fabric I used for my kitchen curtains: Here's a shot of the cool original shelf paper! I can't believe it's in such great shape: We have some cool atomic reproduction items in the family room but it still needs a lot of work before I can post pictures!

Amazing before and afters. Doesn't even look like the same kitchen. I hated that carpet, glad you got it up. Our's was glued to the flooring, it was a mess! The wood floors came out great. Why do people paint doors?

My carpet man said they need to bring a machine in to remove old padding. I can't wait to see the mess.

Wow, the hardwood floor looks beautiful! Your husband did a great job. I love the retro look. If I had just one more spare room in my house, I would decorate it in 50's-60's fashions.

I have a totally retro-dining room set that someone "gave me," (read: unloaded on me) when I got married, lol. Really, looks like something off the set of star trek...would fit right into your decor!
