Wow, no more movie theaters in Wildwood?? Gee, that's too bad. It was a great alternative especially on a rainy day or night.
I was in the theater that was across the street from the Beach Terrace Hotel. I saw three movies there -- When Harry Met Sally, Terminator 2 and True Lies. THe first two I saw with friends. That is how we got our evening started prior to going to the Boardwalk and clubs.
True Lies -- I saw that one night with my brother as it was pouring so hard and there was nothing else to do that night.
Some time after that I recall the theater closing and either was used for Photon or storage. Such a shame!

There still are movies in Wildwood. The Strand Theater was showing movies this summer and fall. As Homer mentioned the Sea There is opened weekends and then Movies on the Beach was added this past summer. Also there are plans for a multi plex in Rio Grande at Rts. 9 and 47, think by next summer maybe.

Thanks for the link, homer. This is great discussion. I have felt a wave of nostaligia wash over me ever since Anthony broke the news that the demolition of the Shore/Blaker complex was imminent.
I was able to get down to Wildwood this past weekend to take some final pics of these theatres. I will miss seeing them when driving down Atlantic Ave., particularly the facade of the Shore (which is such a staple of the "old" Wildwood).

I will still keep a look out for any developments this week. If any info changes I will be posting it here and on the MrBoardwalk.net forum.

Thanks a ton, A.C.
I was highly considering taking another day trip down on Thursday or Friday (something I would have to take time off from work to do) to get some shots of the demolition.
Not sure if I can make it down next week, due to the holiday and all. I'll have to see what's up.
I also want to get some final shots of Moore's Inlet, while its still standing, and a few other things.

It's a shame they have to go, if restored they'd really brighten up that part of town. Please tell me there not putting condo's where these theaters and the quality restarant are!

Thanks darkrideguy for the link of the Shore Theater. Such a darn shame! As I mentioned before, I saw three movies there (Summers of 1989, 1991 & 1994). Seeing the photos of the inside brought back memories. I remember those metal seats with the worn velvet covering. Not very comfortable though but we made the best it, but the place was nostagic.
It will seem weird next summer not seeing it there. I also hope no condos are going there in its place.
I never responded well to drastic change, even while growing up. Wildwood sure has gone through a lot of that in such a short period of time these past few years. It is so sickening.
It would be great if someone would come out with a book with photos of all the lost treasures along with a written history of each one. It would make a great collector's item.

The Shore Theater was an interesting little place. The first and only movie I saw there was Aliens about 20 years ago. I wonder what will be built in its spot?

great pics.. Its so sad to see the theatres in such sad shape while at one time they were packed showing families great movies.. If the walls could tell stories of the many happy people in its hayday.. Oh well..

Definitely, Frank.
These buildings have been sitting there, deteriorating for years now and, sadly, it's time for them to go.
But, even in their dilapidated state, they have charm. The Blaker/Shore complex is, unbelievably, one of the final tangible links we have to the "old" Wildwood.
With the motels rapidly disappearing and these classic theatres set to go, there isn't much left of the resort we all grew up with (well, actually there is; but, comparative to what was still standing just two years ago...).
Anyway, I don't know for sure what will be replacing the theatres, but I am fairly confident that it will not be condos. The Moreys own the property, and I have heard rumors that either parking lots or a parking garage will be going up there.
Certainly not an exciting prospect, but one that is necessary for the island nonetheless.

It's great that Ralph got to go through the theaters, one last time. Judging from those pictures, I wonder if the Shore was salvagable with some $$$ put into it? The Blaker obviously is beyond repair.
