I also forgot to mention in my last thread that the pool was completly redone this year along with there 1 million dollar addtion, the 4th floor. they also have a game room ( seasonal ) and free minnie golf!!! It dosnt get any better. Boardwalk fans? They are not deep in the crest. They are only about 4 blocks away from the begining of the boards! A brief history............ Rose and her husband came from vineland to wildwood in 1953. They built the pink champange motel in 1960 which was 23 units. They had 4 children and decided to sell the pink champange some years later and purchased the land for the cape cod in 1966 to make a much larger motel which they did! The cape cod was built at the same time as the yankee clipper and the fluer de lis. When I spoke with rose she said that she would never sell and tear down her motel cause of all the heart and soul that was put into this great place. True dedication if you ask me! Tons and tons of money has been invested into this motel over the years. When her (rose) husband passed she got her children more involved to keep this place going and to keep it in tip top condition! Rose has also stated that when she and her husband came to wildwood in 1953 ocean ave ended right at where there motel sits!!!! WOW!! Her husband also used to go rabbit hunting right across from the cape cod cause it was still all woods!!!! WOW! I got a chance to meet charlene , the daughter of rose and she was just as kind and took the time to chat! More like a couple of hours! There lighthouse sign was taken down when the 4th floor was put on. it almost didnt make its way back up to the roof cause of new city rules stating " NO revoloving Signs" they were givin a hard time but the sign has been refurbished and made its way back up to the roof! Here are some more pics!

Nice Motel. It looks Doo-Wop with the zig-zag railings. But, the white railings look newer, not like the old style metal curved railings like many of the motels had. Is it harder to get a room at anyplace with almost half the motels gone or are there still vacancies if you drive up without any reservations? Also, how are the two Hawaiian hotels? The Waikiki and the Royal Hawaiian? Are they any good? Whoever's been on both, which is scarier, Zombie World or Dante's?

Whoever's been on both, which is scarier, Zombie World or Dante's? I like how you managed to work this completely unrelated question into your post Robert. You are scarier than both Zombie World and Dante's combined!

But way different. Dont forget about the classic sign on the roof of the cape cod.

Thw Waikiki isn't that run down. We stayed there around 2 years ago. I believe they replace the thatched roofs yearly. Our room was fairly updated, but what made the Waikiki great was the staff. They treated us like gold. Granted though, it would be much better if they did some renovations. But cleanliness was not an issue. Very clean. So unless something terrible happened to it recently I suspect it is still in decent shape, but like many places, could use a renovation. While the exterior is in pretty good shape, a fresh coat of paint might be nice, but their mural on the street side appeared fine last summer. I honestly don't know how you could really make the Waikiki look real new though. It is unlike any other motel on the isalnd, and has a real deep tropical look. The Royal Hawaiin states on their website "We are here to stay" They say they have been in the Wildwoods for generations and want to stay for generations to come. Loosing either the Waikiki or the Royal Hawaiin would be, in my opinion, terrible. Neither appear to be going anywhere and the fact that they are some of the last Poylnesian themed buildings left makes them that much more important. The Wakiki has a sweet color scheme at night. The orange balcony lights, and the green floods on the lava rocks are very interesting to see at night. The rooftop resturaunt serves a good breakfast with a super view as well. Here are a couple pictures of the Waikiki fom last summer. Sorry about the low quality. My digital camera does not fair that well at night. The other picture was on our way out, so I dodn't have a chance for a good daytime photo. Thanks for the great report Crazy, it made my day to hear some good news! So does the lighthouse still spin?

Thanks Mike. The guy who cuts my hair has stayed here for quite a few years, and likes it.
Just curious - why didn't you stay here for your whole trip?
BTW - The Waikiki had some renovations done for 2005. At least some of the units were redone. I don't know what else was done over this past off-season though.

I didnt mean to say the waikiki was run down. It could use some renovations like you said. The reason i didnt stay at the cape cod the whole trip was because i already had reservations somewhere else and we wanted to come down a day early with the great weather and we were excited so we got a place for one night. the roof top sign still spins at night and looks better then ever!
