Great thread, Mike.
It's really nice ... it's GREAT to see owners who have such pride in their business, and such a long and celebrated history in the Wildwoods.
Rose and her family have obviously invested millions of dollars into the Cape Cod, and deserve more recognition for their accomplishments.
The renovations look terrific from the outside... so glad to hear how great the rooms look inside. The place is pristine, and, as mentioned, the classic spinning neon sign is one-of-a-kind and looks better than ever!
While we do and should continue to applaud the owners of the Caribbean and Shalimar, who have preserved and made terrific improvements to their respective motels, we should hold the owners of the Cape Cod and places like the Imperial 500 (which also added an additional floor a few years back and looks awesome) in similar high regard.

i stayed at the Tangiers in October last year during the pt cruiser show last summer which is right across the street from the Cape Cod. The motel was very busy at the time and looked to be in great shape.

I Did get to go into the Doo wop coffee shop which is a part of the tangiers. There collection of 50,s stuff was very cool and the breakfast looked very good! We just went in to get some coffee which was very good. Anyone that has not went in there yet should check it out! Its very cool! I like the original bobby rydell record hanging on the wall.

Isn't there another buliding on the Atlantic Avenue side of the Tangiers, next to the Hut (where the Coffee Shop is)? I was staying at the Shalimar 2 weeks ago, and I remember seeing the empty Hialeah lot when looking out my bedroom window. I'm pretty sure that was the back of the Tangiers facing me.

That is the back of the Tangiers. It's sad to see the Hiileah gone but seeing the back of the Tangiers opened my eyes to something (here's where the REAL Wildwood diehards need to chime in).
All my life, I remember the Tangiers having three floors. My parents remember the same. But if you look at the back of the Tangiers, it looks as though the third floor was added. The windows, the placement of the windows and the A/C units and the patched cracks in the concrete indicate that the third floor wasn't part of the original construction. Any thoughts, anyone?
As for the Cape Cod Inn, those railings aren't original. The original low metal railings were placed a few years ago by taller vinyl ones that do a lot to improve the look of the building (and safety!). When the 4th floor was added, the same railing were installed and all new staircases were built as well.

First off, welcome aboard, Rob!
I always enjoy reading your posts on the Mr. Boardwalk forum. It's great to have you here!
My dad and I were just doing some Wildwood reminiscing last night, and we were talking a lot about some of the motels in this area of the Crest.
Actually, the Tangiers came up, as we were talking about how the motel's sign was pink before changing to power blue just a few years back.
One thing he mentioned (that I've been noticing in older postcards) is that most of the three and four story "block long" motels started out as two-story buildings.
The Cara Mara, Admiral East (now Oceanview), and Monterray, among many others, were all examples of this.
Actually, the V.I.P., I believe, is one of the few original motels in that area that stayed with the two-floor scheme.
Anyway, I'll have to ask my dad tonight about the Tangiers, but I'm fairly certain he mentioned to me at some point in the past that it was originally a two-story structure.
Based on Mike's picture above and your notations, Rob, that probably was the case. But, unless someone else chimes in first, I'll try to find out for sure.
