If you could only choose one motel to save, which one would it be and why?
For those of you who dont know me, I deliver pizza on the weekends for some extra cash.(boat gas isnt free guys) lol. I have the opportunity to vist most, if not all of the motels and hotels on the island. Each doo wop motel has something special. This past weekend, I had the chance to visit the Caribbean for the first time. WOW is all I could say. What a cool place! If you ever get the chance to stay there do it! You will not be disappointed.
If I could save one motel, it would be the Caribbean. Why? Because its wildwood doo wop at its best!

The Caribbean, no question, but it's already been "saved" thankfully. Really wonderful that it got such great new owners who have done right by it.
Next for me would be the Singapore...

Interestingly (to me), I got an e-mail from The Caribbean today that I won 2nd prize in their contest - 15% off for a weekend! Too bad that the offer was only good for THIS weekend. Too short notice, but I appreciated the offer...

"Would have" like to have saved: Satellite Motel
This place was always just so "Wildwood" to me. I loved the whimsical, "space age" exhuberance exbodied in the structure. The rooftop sign, with it's huge mid-century script and the little neon orbs, stars and sputniks that adorned it looked so great, especially all lit up against the backdrop of the night sky. There was also something about the location of the Satellite -- just a few blocks into the Crest on Atlantic -- that I always liked. It seemed like it was right in the middle of everything, and I always considered it the beating heart of the historic motel district.
(P.S. -- Given all of that, I was still tempted to go with the Rio, another classic that I never thought would go. The only difference is a sense of satisfaction in knowing that the Rio will be replaced by a truly unique structure that I believe will be a flagship landmark of the Wildwoods' "rebirth," the Nouveau Wave Hotel. The Satellite, on the other hand, was replaced by... well, you know...)
"Would" like to save: Ala Kai Motel
I'm going with this choice, partially to be different. But, I really do love this place. It looks like it will be sticking around, and that's great. It's one of those unheralded gems that doesn't get mentioned as often as it should. It is definitely one of only a few "Polynesian" themed motels left on the island, featuring very intricate detailing, a bright color scheme and, of course, the large rooftop neon sign (with lettering in the form and shape of bamboo).

This is going to seem like a funny answer considering all the better motels that are down there but I'd save the Oceanview. Its not as special as some of the other ones mentioned but I just have this funny feeling that once the bigger ones start getting picked off the beach how long will it be before the others start to follow?

It's not a funny answer at all. I think the Oceanview is another kind of "underrated" motel, especially with it's large sloping roofline and huge glass walls. This is a really neat place for sure. Do you remember it's previous name?

I would save the Waikiki. I love that place. Even though it is quite big, it probably has always been one of the most unique polynesian looking buildings around. That place has always just been my favorite.
I remember reading somthing a while back about the Oceanview motel being on borowed time, is this one of it's last seasons?
There are so many under-rated motels on the island. When you get to see them all it dosen't make the condo boom seem as bad as if you haven't been down in years. There are still many little gems left, that get little recognition.
