I know you guys have already said it but Under the Boardwalk is still the best; no matter what boardwalk they're talking about. When the Drifters sing that; you can close your eyes and just picture everything they're saying.

You're looking back fondly and remembering everything that's changed since you were a kid, Robert. Wait til you get to be my age, you'll probably be a basket-case!

That's not very nice, CV. All I'm saying is if things really upset him now; well, he better start taking anti-depressants now.

Hey Cripp...Why the wrecking ball icon? I think I get you but just curious. The wrecking ball avatar is just me being sarcastic. When I first came to this message board, I got sick of hearing people moan and grown about the demise of some of the moldiest, beat-up, sorry ass dumps that the Wildwoods had to offer. My point was that some of those motels needed to be put out of their misery. My visions can be crippled at times, but I do love the Wildwoods.

Hey Cripp...Why the wrecking ball icon? I think I get you but just curious. some of those motels needed to be put out of their misery. Agreed, and some still do. How long are such sh-tholes like the Eden Roc, Rus Mar, etc. going to be left limping around on 3 legs like wounded coyotes with gangrenous paws? hey, maybe that's a good name for a bar --"the gangrenous paw", or a tribute song: I went to the shore like never before and was not in awe 'cause the motel where I stayed was like a coyote with a gangrenous paw

You guys just have to understand Cripp. Thanks for the explanation...it was just as I thought. We're so far off the theme of this thread that I forgot where to look for your response. I did enjoy the little song about the paw, though, lastresort.

some of those motels needed to be put out of their misery. Agreed, and some still do. I really don't know why you two would want to focus on that other than for the sake of being contrarian. We're not talking about the loss of a handful of over-the-hill enterprises here. There have been, by various estimates, 80 to 100 motels destroyed in the Wildwoods in the past four years. I would wager that the majority of those 80 to 100 properties, maybe a large majority, were updatable and did not need to be "put out of their misery." I notice that people who sing that good-riddance tune rarely name names. Which ones were you happy to see demolished? I'd be curious to know. I've seen no indication that developers have ever targeted the crappy motels for site redevelopment. The greed and opportunism that have transformed the Wildwoods in the past four years have been completely indiscriminate, IMO, and for me, that provokes "moan and grown" [sic] attacks as much as anything. I peered into several of the Rus-Mar's windows when I was down there earlier this month. It's no longer operating, and unfortunately, being a "crester" to borrow your coinage, I'd never taken a close look at this place while it was still in business. So others here including yourself may know better, but I'm not sure your terminology is justified, unless there is some serious structural or functional problem with the building--which, considering the small price tag, there may be. In the dim view I got through the windows and the closed office door, it looked like it might have been a nice little joint not so long ago. I found myself wishing I had the means to save it, much more so than when I first saw it in the realty listings. Of course, I may have been blinded by the presence of those classic louver doors... ;D (Click if you love louvers )

Interesting perspective, Fuzzy, thanks. I can't speak for CV, but in all honesty, I was not being contrary, and I don't think he was either. Some demolitions I feel are perhaps sad tragedies (the Carousel, the Satellite) But I do think some of the motels needed to go, or the site is better off with a well-done (not cookie cutter type) condo. Regarding the places that needed to go, generally I don't like to name names, because without fail there is someone out there who will take offense to it and it ends up in an argument. Also, there is no sense in walking on the place's grave just to make a point. But ok, I will give a few examples, and I apologize in advance to any fan out there. Jay's motel -- I know, purportedly Sinatra partied there 50 years ago, but in my view, the place was a dump. Granted, I never stayed there, but passed it countless times driving or walking, and it was pretty crummy. When they painted it like 5 years ago and pulled out the overgrown shrubs, it looked alot better. But still (and I've used this phrase before), unless objectivity has completely been thrown out the window, the nicely done condos with the well manicured sidewalks and lawns looks a whole lot better, in my opinion. The Martinique -- man, I loved to party there in the early to mid 80's! Lot's of great memories. Beer, girls, the whole she-bang. But...let's face it, it's not the 80's anymore, and I am not still in college. By 2005, the place was really really showing it's age. Just about anything they put in its place will be an improvement. The Candlelight Inn -- It was on Bennett, I believe, passed it sometimes when cutting over to Duffers from the boardwalk or vice versa. It looked like a tenement. The condos there are no great shakes, but an improvement. I don't really want to go on, but I can. As for the ones still standing that should probably meet the wrecking ball, pretty much anything that has been getting a lot of bad reviews on the various Travel Advisory sites is fair game. Sorry, still not a fan of the Rus-Mar, too small, no pool, and the louver door pic reminds me of the one Manny "opened" with a machine gun in the chainsaw hotel scene in the movie "Scarface"
