Hey, those doors usaed to be pretty nice in "their" day. They were really the latest thing "back then." All this talk about doors, louvers; what's this have to do with Songs that Mention the Jersey Shore?

Hey, Crippled, what do you consider a dive? I've stayed in ALOT of run-down places already and I just want to know what you would feel a "run-down" place is?

Well, all right, Martin! The man knows his Wildwoods and his soul music too. What more can we ask of our Gods?

All this talk about doors, louvers; what's this have to do with Songs that Mention the Jersey Shore? Roughly as much as psychoanalysis of Crippled Visions' persona has to do with it, I'd say

The Thunderbird and Flame Inn were dives. That's a very small fraction of what's been lost... but thanks for the examples. generally I don't like to name names, because without fail there is someone out there who will take offense to it and it ends up in an argument. Also, there is no sense in walking on the place's grave just to make a point. Nice of you to consider the feelings of forum members, though as for the former motel owners themselves, I don't know that those who let their properties go to seed deserve any mercy from us And really, passing judgment about what is and isn't worth saving is a large part of what this forum's about, seems to me. Awwww... You're probably right. But the sign was so cute. It was bigger than the damn building ;D Remember that the debate about any demolition does not concern appearances alone. Wherever you replace a motel with a condo, you've chipped away at the local hospitality industry and closed another door to the public. (And the "condotel," I believe we agree, is a dubious concept at best.) <clearing throat> Incorrigible Maybe. There are a lot of low-class nitwits posting on tripadvisor.com, though, to be blunt. Heh. The mind works in funny ways. My @ssociations with that image are totally opposite... tranquility, relaxation, pleasure. [Edit: I had to use the "at" symbol instead of an "a" in the previous sentence to keep the forum software from changing the first five characters of that sentence to "I disagree" and running the change right into the rest of the word. (Think about what those five characters spell--it's a retort you may have used in the past when someone said something you thought was false or foolish.) I'm sure anyone who read this post before I caught that completely unexpected auto-edit thought I'd had five margaritas with my brunch... Sheesh. Some things just cannot be automated.]
Thanks for elaborating on your thoughts about this subject. My apologies to anyone who finds this tangent annoying... but if you'll notice, we do a lot of that around here It's a conversational forum.

Hey, Crippled, what do you consider a dive? I've stayed in ALOT of run-down places already and I just want to know what you would feel a "run-down" place is? A dive is a motel that smells moldy on the inside and is rotted on the outside. It will also contain non-working TVs and AC units as well as worn carpets and bedding. Also, pubic hairs outnumber towels 2 to 1 in the bathroom.

Hi Fuzzy, re TripAdvisor, I agree, only a small handful of people actually take the time to post, and in many cases just the people who are p-ssed off at something and have an axe to grind. But...I think there is corroborating evidence in alot of respects. It seems that the Eden Roc is one place that has gotten hammered on TripAdvisor, but man, when I pass it, those stories seem to ring true.
In some instances, like with the Eden Roc, either nearly everyone is lying or nearly everyone is telling the truth, I suspect they are telling the truth.
Re "the appearance factor", yes, I agree, that by knocking down a motel and putting up a condo, they've perhaps disenfranchised a group of people who used to go there, but I still think, for better or worse, a nice building is better than a motel that the owners have no pride in. As I've said at the outset, I'd prefer everyone who's left "Caribbeanize", but since that is not going to happen, better to see the dogs torn down then to let them rot and bring a bad name to the town.
