I doubt anyone remembers this band... or even the song! Because I'm a "punk rock girl"!
"B*tchin' Camaro" by (Philly's own:) The Dead Milkmen
"Hey Jack, what's happenin'? Oh, I don't know. Well, rumor around town says you think you might be heading down to the shore. Uh, yeah, I think I'm goin' down to the shore. Whatcha gonna do down there? Uh, I don't know, play some video games, buy some Def Leppard t-shirts. Hey, don't forget to get your Mötley Crüe t-shirt, y'know, all proceeds go to get their lead singer out of jail....
Well, that's another story; the important thing here is you gotta ask me how I'm gonna get down to the shore. Uh, how you gonna get down to the shore? Funny you should ask, I've got a car now.... Uh, what kinda car do ya' got? I've got a B*TCHIN' CAMARO!"
(Just so you all know, I added the asterisk on B*tchin'... the board wouldn't allow me to write the other word.... HAHA, it came up like "pregnant doggin"! LOL!)

The best dead milkmen song is "Takin Retards to the Zoo" Not trying to make fun of the handicapped but the song is amusing.

Not to date myself, but I don't even know who some of those bands are? Rydell of course. Springsteen and Billy Joel naturally are favs, have Billy's Nylon Curtain (Allentown) on vinyl, and the "Jersey Girl" 45 on vinyl since at the time it wasn't on an album (or I couldn't find it). I also remembered vaguely this song "Convoy" by CW McCall from like 1977, which started the CB craze. (the ancient equivalent of a "chat site") Sorry for "cheating" but I looked the lyrics up on Google and sure enough: Well we laid a strip for the Jersey shorePrepared to cross the line I could see the bridge was lined with bears But I didn't have a doggone dime I says Pigpen this here's the Rubber Duck We just aint gonna pay no toll So we crashed the gate doin' ninety-eight I says Let them truckers roll, ten-four

Kristen, I'm from Allentown, lol. Born and raised here. My dad worked at Bethlehem Steel like it mentions in the song. And yes, a yearly trip to Wildwood was a tradition for us. For a few years, anyway. My dad seemed to like Hunt's Pier, we went there every time. One of my favorite rides was the train through the ghost town. I remember being scared the very first time I rode the Golden Nugget. Whenever I see pictures of Hunt's Pier on these websites during the time that Bud Hunt ran it 1985 and earlier I think of my father because he passed away March 1986 and when my father was alive we went to Hunt's Pier during the time that your grandfather still owned the pier. I would have been there toward the last weekend in August in the years 1981, 1982, 1983. I was between 7-9 years old at the time. I'm glad to have experienced it, it was one of the best amusement places ever. Now I look back fondly and remember the Golden Nugget alive, the chain lift rattling, the toot-toot of the train, the Flyer roaring overhead, the spooky sounds of the Whacky Shack, the mystery of the Pirate Ship, the silliness of the Keystone Kops, and the adventure of Jungleland. Today's kids don't know what they're missing.

Hey Robert- I've only drove past Allentown on Route 80 a few times... I heard it was a big iron town; is that true?
Not to be a smart-ass but you keep posting the same story over and over again... is there a reason that you do that? I appreciate your (and everyone else's) love of Hunt's Pier — hearing all the stories, memories, etc. I do read your posts Robert and I'm hoping you have other stories to tell, instead of the same one over and over. (I know others are going to kill me for this... sorry guys!) -Kristen

This is an obscure one. It is called "Bury My Heart on the Jersey Shore", by Shannon McNally.

Bruce's version of "Jersey Girl" was also on his 5LP/3CD live box set. It started out as a Tom Waits song...

How about Blackthorn....On the Road to Anglesea.
"Late Septemeber you must remember along the Jersey shore, the crack (irish trerm for fun) was good at Jimmy's and we ended up at Moores. 80 miles south of Philly and 100 from NY, 3000 from west Belfast, the same from County Cork."
This also mentions Philly and the Mummers (sorry I'm a mummer and I love this song)
"Some jokers down from Two Street, they try to strut their stuff, Theres only room for Jiggin' Boys, you'll have to give it up."
Blackthorn, No way to go but Up
"I worked 4 years on Morey's Pier all that got me was the gold."

Al Alberts has an albm all about the shore. There is one song on there called as the Tram Rolls on. Its a pretty decent song to the tune of "And the Band Played On"
Lovers still stroll on the boards as of old as the Tram Rolls On, He looked in her face and found some warm encrace as the Tram Rolls Alone. North Wildwood's the place for a starlit embrace and you finally woke with alarm. He married the girl whose voice is a pearl as the tram rolls on.
The lyrics are something to that effect...its pretty kool. At the end its the voice on the tram saying "WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE"
For those of you Mummer fans, my former band, Irish American String Band, performed a Jersey shore theme on New YEars 2005 and in our finale, the entire band screamed, "WATCH THE TRAM CAR PLEASE" which was highly applauded from both the fans and the judges.
