Since Mike D's announcement at the top of the board hadn't changed since 6/05 or so, I'm not sure what caused me to notice that it changed late tonight. (The flashing "News" banner calling attention to it, maybe except I'm not sure that was there at first.)
Anyway, be sure to read it, everyone, and be sure to save everything from this board that you might want for reference or for future comment on the new board.

Says Mike, in part:
All that sounds good to me. This part... not so good:
These boards are a gold mine of information and commentary on the dramatic change that has overtaken the Wildwoods in this new millennium, even if they are littered with a lot of silliness, and even if they did start about two years later than they needed to . ProBoards are free, so why can't this site just be left up indefinitely in an inactive state? Kind of like the Golden Nugget (ouch...) and we'll pick away at it... Everyone's too busy at this time of year to carve out a chunk of time for perusing and archiving a huge forum on short notice.
If the problem is posts and threads the DWPL is uncomfortable with, why not weed 'em out and make it a greatest hits board? Better than wiping it off the face of the Internet altogether...

Says Mike, in part:
- As long as we're making a big change like this, its a good time to change some of the finer details too... so there'll be some re-arranging of the structure of the message board to keep things fresh and more in line with where the DWPL and its topics of discussion are today. We might ::gasp:: also try to be a little more formal with the boards this next time around and with a little more in the way of closer moderation to keep things focused and relevant.
- We're going to try to get some more active involvement by people close to specific DWPL projects and areas of interest so in addition to continuing to function as an open discussion forum for anyone interested in talking about the Wildwoods and Doo Wop architecture, there'll also be the opportunity to ask questions of and hear from specific people with specific knowledge of specific topics.
All that sounds good to me. This part... not so good:
- Unfortunately, it is not possible to migrate member and posting data from ProBoards to another system. This means all current members will need to re-register when the new board debuts. We will of course monitor this process to ensure that all current members are able to re-claim their original usernames. On the same note, posting will have to begin from scratch as all the ProBoards threads will be "retired" once we abandon ProBoards and open the new board since, again, it is not possible to migrate the data. What we may do is keep the ProBoards forum available for viewing for a little while longer, but with all threads locked, to allow users to re-post or re-create some outstanding threads they wish to continue on the new board.
