Little note in the Herald... Grand Big Bang? DIAMOND BEACH - The Grand Hotel here may be demolished by dynamite instead of bulldozers and a wrecking ball, according to developer Eustace Mita. He said the hotel will come down after Labor Day possibly by a controlled explosion that will cause the hotel to fall in on itself. A $500 million condo resort will take the place of the derelict hotel.
Might just have to wander down there if they blow the thing up..er..in.

"by any means necessary". as long as they get that dead dog off the island. the sooner the better. I'll be in WW for a week in mid Sept, I hope it is when this happens, I'll be the guy holding a bottle of champaign. PS, classifying the hotel as simply "derelict" is being kind.

500 million ?? Was that a typo ? Just how many units are they bulding on that site ? If they were 5 million each (which they are not) they would still need to build 100

Has any structure on the island ever been demolished via dynamite?

perhaps a few hundred condos, and all the "accoutrements", add up to $500M?
PS, if anyone is bored when they are at the shore and has a chance to watch the public service channel, there is a commercial on there for "Coastal Colors". Now granted, they are very nice. But the guy on it kept saying how "excited" they (the "real estate" agents) were about it, excited this, and exciting that. Geeze, he must have used the word "excited" or a variation thereof 10 times.
I think they are definitely "excited" about the money they are making, that's all. Sorry for being such a cynic, but I regret I am a "glass is half empty" kind of guy...

Making money is exciting... provided you are the one making the money.
I don't mind Coastal Colors because it is a pretty complex. Plus it didn't take the place of any motels, did it?

I like the look, and I think you are correct, that it did not take the place of any motels. and it's "exciting" to boot!
re your "exciting" comment, damn right. it reminds me of all those folks we've come across in our lives who talk about being a "team player". right, as long it is their team. if you try to do something for your "own team", they say you are selfish.

From what I've read there will be 3 phases, 2 multi story condo buildings and one condotel. See this weeks Herald/Page 46 www.capemaycountyherald.com/I tried to cut and paste but everytime I run the herald program it locks up my computer. Here's their website www.thegrandatdiamondbeach.com/In the event you want to go on and pick up one, seems some have already sold? re

Quite the place, 500 million was the right number I would say. This is one example of a hotel going down and something better being built

If I'm not mistaken I think Coastal Colors was the last remaining vacant lot left down that way. I'm sure someone will come along and correct me if I'm wrong.

as my dad used to say, you can't bullsh-t a bullsh-tter. "exciting" me arse. like you said, they are excited about the sound of the cash register going "ka-ching"! Those guys, if left to their own devices, would tell you the Grand was the Taj Mahal, and if you didn't see that, you "just don't get it".
