This is all very interesting. If not for this website, how would you learn about stuff like this? Now I'm going to throw out a question. If someone were to come in and renovate and expand the motel, would you rather see it preserved as the Beach Colony or as the Golden Nugget?
Personally I would go with the 60's look.

Thanks Eric! I don't recognize the other two signs in that outside picture - do you know what those are?

Thanks Eric! I don't recognize the other two signs in that outside picture - do you know what those are? These are terrific pictures, as usual, Eric! Martin, pretty sure the sign in the background that appears over the roof of the then-Golden Nugget is that of the Conca D'or, which is still around. The sign that is partially visible on the right side of the photo is the original sign from the Silver Dollar Motel, which was demolished shortly after the 2004 season. The Silver Dollar was another one of those "diamonds in the rough" for sure. It was really a shame to see it go, because it was an extremely well-kept, meticulously clean motel. It certainly was not showing its age, even right before it went.

Is the small piece of motel in the upper left hand corner of the golden nugget pic the astronaut? When was the astronaut built, late 1960's?

Yep, that's definitely the Astronaut.
I would guess that that motel was built in the early/mid 60s, if not the very late 50s, actually.

It depends on the price. I don't think anyone in their right mind would dish out big bucks on a bad market for 5 stories worth of condos.

I don't know the exact situation with regard to the condo operations nearby, but from everything I've been hearing, there certainly doesn't seem to be any tremendous sales activity in that area. There are probably a lot of factors at play here that I am not privy to. On the surface, it would seem from what we know that the owner missed out on selling the property within the past two years. As we've established, the owners of the Hi-Lili, Kona Kai, Bonanza and Swan all seemed to make out quite well. Hopefully, the fact that the Beach Colony is still standing -- for whatever the reason might be -- will allow for an opportunity to maintain and improve upon what is there.

Hasen't the Beach Colony already been for sale for quite some time? If developers did not find it interesting in past years I doubt they will really be falling head over heals for it now. I would love to see a Caribbean type restoration to the place. It certainly is capable of being a great Doo-Wop landmark amongnst the mediocrity.

I do not like the looks of this ... Has the owner posted that sign in off-seasons past? I don't understand why she would hold out through the peak of condomania, and seem happy to have done so, only to turn around and try to sell it to a condo developer after all the steam has gone out of the market. Which she seems clearly to be doing--she must have been the one to get it approved for condos, no? Failing health, perhaps... In any event, it looks like the Beach Colony may need a white knight. Could there be one somewhere in the house?
