I don't know how anyone can say any Idea would be bad for the Wildwoods. The worst thing that could happen to the Island has already happened/is happening. Every standing structure with any character or use to vacationers is being destroyed for private residences. Any kind of attration for WW would probably make money and help attract more positive attention to the Island. I don't know why so many movie theaters have closed down and I hate to see so many motels and restaurants go too. There have been almost no positive changes since the turn of the Century. I love how building a shuttle to the beach and back is would be a problem with the gov't down there, yet destroying over 100 motels in less then five years is perfectly fine with them [if not encouraged] I wish more people who owned businesses in the Wildwoods would not sell out to Condo developers. If it's more money these motel owners want then they should update there rooms and raise the rates. If they want to be done with the motel business and make a few fast bucks then they should at least sell to a developer who would build something honorable in it's place, instead they take the "bad" money from the condo builders and sell out the island, leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth. The city officials didn't seem to bat an eyelash even once.

As for far fetched idea's; I can come up with plenty more. Having unique idea's about the Island is not an unrealistic dream nor is it a disregarded burden upon the city's taxpayers. A good deal of Wildwoods revenue comes from it's vacationers, so they should have a say in the islands development too [I think the first thing they would say is "No More !#@#% Condo's!!!!"
Some more "Crazy" idea's would be
1. Build a tunnel coming into the city, made out of glass so you could see the bay above you.
2. Rebuild Pacific Ave to have lots of cool boardwalk style stores, like South St in Philly or SoHo, NY.
3. Buy up all the Condo's going up, demolish em, rebuild what was once there identically [only with updated rooms and facilities]
4. Rebuild every lost attraction in the city, boardwalk, piers and the bay [like Zaberer's, Hunts pier, sportland pier, the castle, nut hut, all motels, hunts movie theaters, the old nightclubs, playpen ETC...]
5. Build on the non devolped side [east side] of the boardwalk up with stores and other attractions
6. Rebuild the Briginitine Castle in WW [even though it was originally a brigintine attraction]
7. Make a law saying that anything built on the island must have a neon sign put up with it.

How about this; no more personal attacks. This website is meant for talking about the Island not insulting each other. It's allright to disagree and make points about your opinion, but let's try not to insult each other. If anyone feels that they need to get that personal then there should be another forum set up that has nothing to do with the DWPL.

Anyway... getting back to the topic of moving sidewalks... They might not be practical, but maybe a moving sidewalk in an airport was once not practical; things change. And as far as other idea's go... Maybe one of the Avenue's in Wildwood could go past the boardwalk and to the end of the beach, that way some people could get dropped off down there or a shuttle bus could go back and forth.

The money the tourists pump into town goes to the merchants and hotel/condo owners...and it's the taxes from these people, along with the rest of the local taxpayers that fund the works on the Island. Yes there are some grants availible, but those grants won't cover your ideas. #1 tunnel under the Bay...ewwww! I don't want to see what's down there!! #2 Good luck..it took only a few short years for the Downtown area to die...and it will take many years for it to return to it's former glory. Sad that. #3 whatever #4 Again...where is the money for all this building coming from? #5 Must get approval from the EPA, I think...tho, they really should start using all the land on the Oceanside of the B'Walk. #6 Why? #7 Now that is just silly. To force people to have signs is just ridiculous.

The people who should have to have signs are the new buildings going up where the motels were that are going to make the area look dull and boring. It won't be nice at night anymore.

So...which town are you talking about? Cause to force all the new building owners to have neon, the entire Island would have to change their laws. good luck on that!!

I believe construction on the new glass-encased tunnel leading into Wildwood under the bay is set to begin in the Fall of 2006...

LOL!!!
Just wondering...how far down would a tunnel have to be? It's not like it could just be place on the Bay floor...It would have to be deeper so the boats could still get in and out.

Anisha, I have absolutely no idea how far down a tunnel like this would have to be entrenched. I highly doubt that a project like this would be possible, even if everyone on the island were for it and the money was ready to get it done.
All joking aside, however, I like anticondo’s ideas, zany and “out there” as some of them may be.
Some of them are entertaining, and some of them at least get you thinking.
Remember, some of the greatest inventions of all time (i.e. the light bulb, telephone, etc.) were originally viewed as ridiculous conceptions.
And, well, look where we are today… Just goes to show that every idea should at least be contemplated and used as a starting point.
You never know where it can go from there…<br>

True Al. Im sure that in thelate fourties if someone said "I want to build a motel, have a "levetating" ramp, giant neon sign, and spaceship lights everywhere, and call it the Carribean" some people would think that person was nuts. See the people who designed these motels were very talented and they weren't afraid to make some cazy designs, knowing the whole time that it would be their crazy designs that would attract people. Just about all condos (and most new homes in NJ) just use the same general design as every other builder uses. I have had about 10 developments go up around me and the houses all look the same. All of them.

Yes, some of the ideas were entertaining...and I agree with the building on the East side of the B'Walk..but some were just silly...like building ALL the places that are gone. Or build Brigantine Castle here. Why?? It wasn't even a Wildwood attraction.

I realize that novel ideas often encounter short-sighted opposition or dismissal as ridiculous. That is because they are new and different, and as people often have difficulty comprehending the unfamiliar, they are disregarded as crazed, regardless of a demand, a want, or a way in which they could be positively realized. My opposition to the above ideas is not predicated on unfamiliarity or fear of outside of the box, revolutionary thinking. Rather, it is based on logical criticism of their neccesity, desirability, and feasibility. It's great that people are thinking about how to improve the Wildwoods. Less great is the degree of reason that has been devoted to their undoubtedly sincere conceptions, as many of those above. Instead let's think, still creatively, about viable projects, without undue conceptual haste.
