Oops! I am getting greedy with space here but I remember another place! The French Quarter - a teeny, tiny store on the boards - I think it may be a DQ now?? They sold the coolest stuff but you could barely move in there! Those were the days....

I know this will sound crazy because it's not just one thing: cruising down the streets at night with my then-boyfriend (now husband) in our Trans Am with the t-tops off, looking at all the groovy neon signs and listening to everyone having fun around the motels. Cruising just won't be the same anymore.

If I could bring back one thing it would be my grandparents, Bud and Cora Hunt and of course, all of Hunt's Properties. I miss the pier, golf courses and movie theaters but I really miss them so much more; no one will ever come close to what they mean to me. I'm a much better person for knowing them and honestly, Hunt's Pier was just an extra added bonus.

that was a beautiful post. I understand the feeling for grandparents. My grandparents are gone and they loved wildwood. It was because of them that we started coming here. I still feel them with us every time we are in wildwood. They loved it all. the beach, the boardwalk, the Packard motel, gateway 26 and sitting on their favorite bench watching the world go by.
Memories, that is what makes wildwood so great. Your grandparents did great things in wildwood and brought many, many smiles and memories to all of us.

Huntspier4ever, Hunt's Pier was a big part of my childhood and I thank my deceased father (died in Mar. 1986) for introducing us, me and my brother to Wildwood. I was born in 1974 and went to WW when our dad was alive between 1980-1983 when Hunt's was alive and well. It was my most favorite pier, and I think my dad's, too because we always walked onto Hunt's every time. I remember riding most of the rides, and the Golden Nugget. I didn't find out about it's closing until years later, in Aug 95 we returned to WW with our mom and walked up the boardwalk toward Hunt's and it looked wierd, rides were missing and it looked dead and closed. When we got up to it there were kiddie rides on the front and a white wall across the pier with the former Whacky Shack behind it, inaccessable and closed, as well as the Nugget and Flume, etc. I was sad and puzzled as to what could have happened to Hunt's Pier, why was it like this, half closed and rides gone? What happened to the train? The Flyer? The jungle boat ride? The pirate ship? At that time I didn't know the answer as to what happened to the rides. The following year it reopened as Dinosaur Beach and the Shack was gone but the Nugget was open and I rode it several times, as it was the first time I rode it since 1983! The Escape from Dinosaur Beach dark ride was pretty good, too, but I kept thinking of the Shack and my missed opportunity to ride it. I also went through Castle Dracula for the first time in 95, and the Dungeon first time 96, last time 98. But, I remembered the Castle clearly from 80-83 walking past it at night on the main boardwalk. And Fun Pier, I had no idea the pier burned down a year after (84) we went to WW with our dad in 83, because in 95 all the rides were different, go-karts and skycoaster, bungee and the dark rides were gone. The next year the Great White opened and there was a dark ride there and I was happy. It may have been a 30 second piece of junk, compared with what was there before, Lost World, but it was better than nothing. The maze was pretty good, too.

. And Fun Pier, I had no idea the pier burned down a year after (84) . Fun Pier had a couple of fires, but the pier never burned down.

Just wondering, if it were up to you what is the ONE thing in Wildwood you would want back. I would have to say Castle Dracula since I never had the chance to check it out Check out this website: mywebpages.comcast.net/castlealan/

Bring back one thing? Maybe my childhood; the first time I saw WW; the piers, the castle, the vegas strip in the crest, downtown, the boards! The greatest moments of my life! Yet WW continues to be a blast and a half and I love it here. I wish I never had to leave. And honest to god; WW is paradise, no doubt about it, no matter how many things have been demolished, it's still got that Wildwood magicical feel!!!

I truely miss the Captains Table. Good meals and good people. What more could you want. The Magician was the highlight of the day for my younger siblins and their cousins.

I also have to agree about the Captain's Table. Believe it or not, I took a picture of the empty lot. Too bad I did not get a photo of the place before the wrecking ball attacked it.

Has anyone here even been at the Captain's Table when someone was celebrating a birthday and the waitresses/waiters sang "Happy Birthday" LOUDLY, clapping along at the same time? It made for quite the show. I wouldn't have wanted to be the guest of honor though.
