Duffers is the best no question.. thanks, Flyin, I thought I was the only one, but unlike you, I have never even seen or heard of it! maybe we'll get a chance to check it out in September? Duffers is our favorite mini-golf spot. And their homemade ice cream rocks!

We just went to eat there on Thursday. I loved the place! Nice big breakfasts for the price. Very clean, nice game room and followed it up with mini golf. I loved the decor and the place was packed with people waiting. I can see how it sorta looks out of place with all the condos. I'm wondering if the condo people just don't like having to look at it. My opinion is that Hawaiian Rumble was there first, if they didn't like it they should not have put over $800, 000 for the condo.

We should all be happy that we had this year! No one thought it was going to open in 2006 but it did. If only for one year we all need to visit and pay our last rites.
I will miss it!

We should all be happy that we had this year! No one thought it was going to open in 2006 but it did. If only for one year we all need to visit and pay our last rites. I will miss it! We live nearby and knew it was going to open. It had black burlap protective sheet everywhere to help keep nearby construction debris out, the tiki idols were wrapped carefully, other motifs put in storage, lagoons drained, sporadic onsite activity. So much for all the naysayers and windbag "experts" on this forum who live hundreds of miles away (or haven't been here for years) and seem to know when something will open or close, what has or hasn't been saved, and who owns what. The Rumble auction is Sept. 23. So will any of you show up to save anything? Or just eat pizza? (A true last rite would be allowing everyone to swim in the volcano!) Wildwood needs your outside help to save what is left. Nobody here is interested. Look at the recent Wildwood Diner. The way that was ignored was a tragedy.

writhing, again, no one on this forum ever claimed or claims to be an expert on anything.
And no one ever reported that the Hawaiian Rumble was closing its doors forever last year. I think that most of us believed it would, but we only relayed what we had heard.
By this time last year, it had long since become public knowledge that the majority of what was left of that area of Surf Ave. was about to be torn up. We knew that the 24th St., Thunderbird, Flame, Ocean East, ect. were goners.
It was only logical to think that the HR might be next. I stopped in for breakfast three times last year, and each time the manager on duty told me that he or she either believed or had heard that the Rumble was set to close.
It's nice that it was open this year, that many of us got the chance to visit and enjoy it perhaps one last time, take photos to document it, whatever.
I wish I had the means to head to Wildwood on the 23rd and bid on some of the items up for auction, and I'm sure most here feel the same way.
It's a damn shame that there is little interest on the island for preserving such history. What happened to the Wildwood Diner is still difficult to fathom, but it certainly says a lot about the overall mentality toward these classic (and in many cases) soon-to-be-forgotten structures.

Was a reason given on why it was up for auction? Was the property purchased?

it was FORCED purchased about 5 years ago and was in the courst cause theewners DID NOT want to sell.. The courts basically made them sell to developers.. Was a reason given on why it was up for auction? Was the property purchased?

Hmmmm, you should rethink that first sentence Al. Happy birthday by the way. Its funny how whenever there is a public auction or town meeting concerning Wildwood's heritage, preservation issue, historic talk or film showing, etc. all of you who find time to take numerous trips down here to eat pizza, take endless boring photos of the ferris wheel and talk about your solution for the Wildwoods suddenly "CAN'T MAKE IT"! Just chiding you youngsters here. It is a pleasure to see how much Wildwood means to you at a young age and your optimism for its future.

Thanks, writhing.
Well, I can at least speak for myself and say that I never claim to be an expert about anything... because I most definitely am not.
It's a frustrating situation for many of us, living a decent distance from the Wildwoods and trying to both keep track of everything that's going on and apply potential solutions to the Wildwoods' problems.
I was lucky enough to get the chance to make several trips down this year, but I always try to find time to hit the public auctions, town meetings and such whenever I can. It's just not easy to drop everything and travel to do it sometimes, but I understand what you are saying.
The Wildwoods and the island's history represent one of my greatest passions in life. I think many of us here feel at a loss at times in our attempts to preserve the resort's heritage, because we do have little or no control over the changes that have and continue to take place.

Just chiding you youngsters here. It is a pleasure to see how much Wildwood means to you at a young age and your optimism for its future. You’re digging yourself pretty deep now. Are you serious? What is it that you want? The auction notice lists “Hawaiian Rumble Arcade, Mini Golf, Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor, Games, Island Artwork, Restaurant and Ice Cream Equipment Liquidation.” Judging by that, it appears it’s the material parts of the business that are up for auction, not the real estate. Do you think someone’s going to come down and buy all those parts and have a few hundred thousand left over to purchase a site where the Rumble can be rebuilt? Maybe there are lurkers on this board who possess the means to do that, but most of those who post regularly probably don’t. Would you like to propose that financial prequalification be required for user accounts on this forum? (Heh... dream on.) Or maybe you’re suggesting someone should claim some bits and pieces from the Rumble to put in the Doo-wop Museum. But don’t we already have a surfeit of memorabilia from the carnage of the past few years? I’ve appreciated most of your posts, and I think you’re smart enough to know that coming on here and flinging insults at people on this board because they steal a few days here and there to go and enjoy the place they love, and take pictures of favorite sights that may be gone tomorrow, is not going to do a damn thing to help the future of the Wildwoods. Right now, it sounds like you may need to treat yourself to a bit of attitude adjustment

We all can't leave work and/or school early to drive 2 or more hours, participate at a meeting, and drive 2 or more hours home, and then go to work and/or school the next day. Its impossible and also very unsafe.

Exactly.
I believe we all do what we can. Given the collective love and passion for the Wildwoods of the members of this forum, we all probably wish we could do more. But, we do our best.
Also, when we take our "numerous trips" down to "eat pizza" and take "endlessly boring" pictures, we are generally supporting the Wildwoods' by patronizing motels and feeding the local economy.
It certainly isn't cheap to spend a week, a few days or even (sometimes) a day in the Wildwoods anymore, but we do it because we love and truly care for the present and future of the island.

This is one in Myrtle Beach, but is this what it looks like? prominigolf.com/rumble.html Also, look at this site www.wildwoodrents.com/ What is this, a real estate company, a condo complex? They actually admit so many of the motels have been demolished. Look on the right. I think WW is trying to promote everything but the motels.
