Ok, summer is ending and the board is a little slow, this should stir things up. A lot of people talk about Mack's and Sam's pizza. I was just wondering is the the best pizza you have ever had or can you get better pizza where you live ? Where I am from in CT neither of these places would be in the top 10.

As great as northern NJ and NYC are for pizza, nothing around her can touch Mack's. NOTHING.

Where I live?
Guess it would be Mr. D's...if you are talking the off-season.

I live in Philly, where we have at least one bar and one pizza shop on every neighborhood corner. I think it's a law, actually. So, there are definitely plenty of options here.
If you brought Mack's and/or Sam's pizza up here to Philly on a full-time basis, I don't think they would have the same appeal. But the same can be said for the pizza here, if it were transported to the shore.
I guess if you shot me off to the moon and gave me the option of taking along one box of pie, I would go with Mack's.
I've probably had pizza that I would consider "better," but they produce the "total package" as far as I'm concerned -- taste, aroma, nostalgic connection, etc.

If you guys are real pizza lovers you need to visit New haven, Ct. Pizza was invented there (for real, check it out on Google) Sally's and Pepe's are the best along with Modern and Zuppardi's. Mack's would be a place I would get pizza from if I was lazy and they delivered.

What makes the pizza up there different, Jim?
I'm glad you brought this up, because I never would have considered CT a pizza hot bed, let alone the place where it was supposedly invented.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to check those places out when I pass through New Haven.

Mack's for me! Or, Mack and Manco if you are in Ocean City N.J. Don't know if they are related, but it seems like the same recipe to me. I remember my first Mack's when I was a kid. It smelled so good, I couldn't wait to eat it. I took a bite of that piping hot pizza and the whole cheese topping came off and welded itself to my chin. I was instantly hooked!!!

Pizza around me tastes like cardboard. I'm from Philly and there are lots of places that are better than Mack's like Tony's. From my part of South Jersey the best we can get, and this is really sad, is Dominos. I'm counting down the days to my first Mack's pizza of the season for me!

Well I'm always partial to Mack's with Sam's coming in second. Living in the winter in North Carolina where pizza isn't king, I rarely eat it except at the Pizza Inn Buffet, love their taco pizza.
Last week my son in law made his first ever visit to The Wildwoods, and he was in foodie heaven. He tried a blind taste test Sam's vs. Mack's and Mack's won hands down. He ordered a Mack's garbage pizza later in the week as a late night "snack", and deemed it very good. Also adored in no particular order, Pompeo's omelets, 2 Mile Inn, Claude's, and all the fresh seafood, fruits and veggies that are so available here.

I had sams today and I am sorry to say it was horrible! I have never got a bad pie at macks! Sams has always been good but today it was really bad. There was no cheese on it at all and it was covered in flour and was under cooked. I will post a picture of it soon.

They forgot to put cheese about 4 inches to the edge and it was really thin and caked in flour and very under cooked. They must have been having a bad day. It was packed in there.
